Jack Alexy<\/strong>, an 18-year-old out of Greater Somerset, crushed his best time to qualify for the semifinals in the men’s 100 free at Olympic Trials<\/a>, and that was good enough to knock one of the best swimmers in the world out of one spot in the record books. Alexy swam a 48.69, well under his entry time of 49.31 that had him seeded 21st, and he broke\u00a0Caeleb Dressel’s\u00a0<\/strong>National Age Group record of 48.78, set at U.S. Nationals in 2015.<\/p>\n

Swimming out of lane one, Alexy went out with some outside smoke and flipped in first place in his heat at 22.92, and while he faded slightly down the stretch, he still posted a remarkable finish to break the record. Alexy will return for tonight’s semifinals, and barring any surprising scratches, he will swim next to Dressel in the first semifinal. He would likely need to cut a substantial amount from his strong prelims effort to have a chance at making the final.<\/p>\n

Alexy is a future California Golden Bear, headed to Berkeley this fall to begin working with\u00a0Dave Durden<\/strong>, also the head Olympic coach for the U.S. men.<\/p>\n
