Lilly King<\/strong> made her return to the Olympic trials in the prelims of the women’s 100 breaststroke on the second day of the meet in Omaha.<\/p>\n

King, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist in this event and two-time Olympic gold medalist, posted a 1:05.67 to lead the field into tonight’s semifinals. King’s splits were 30.62 and 35.05.<\/p>\n

No surprise there for the 11-time world championship gold medalist, but several other breaststroke stars did well to make the semis packed.<\/p>\n

Veteran Bethany Galat<\/strong> took the second seed in 1:05.89, ahead of Annie Lazor<\/strong> (1:05.92) \u2014 both top-five performers in the world this year.<\/p>\n

Alaska native Lydia Jacoby<\/strong> led off the circle-seeded heats with a 1:06.46 to take the top time at that point, finishing with the fourth seed.<\/p>\n

Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong> took the fifth seed in 1:07.42, ahead of Emily Escobedo<\/strong> (1:07.45), Micah Sumrall<\/strong> (1:07.60) and Allie<\/strong> Raab<\/strong> (1:07.69) as fifth-through-eighth was a matter of less than two tenths of a second.<\/p>\n

Molly Hannis<\/strong>, who made the 2016 Olympic team in the 200 breast, takes the ninth seed into semis at 1:07.78.<\/p>\n

Ohio State’s Hannah Bach<\/strong>, who helped the Buckeyes win the Big Ten Championship this season, won the third heat from lane eight with a 1:07.89 that started to build the excitement from the crowd in this event.<\/p>\n

Michigan’s Miranda Tucker<\/strong>, who has put together strong performances in this event in both short-course and long-course, took 11th at the Olympic trials prelims at 1:08.07.<\/p>\n
