Nick Zorn<\/strong>, who spent the last three years as an assistant coach<\/a> for the Florida State swimming and diving teams, will join the University of Louisville coaching staff. The university announced<\/a> the decision on Friday.<\/p>\n

The Cardinals also recently announced<\/a> the promotions of\u00a0Stephanie Juncker\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Chris Lindauer\u00a0<\/strong>to associate head coaches.<\/p>\n

“We are excited to welcome Nick Zorn to join our staff. We started this process by determining some key traits and experience that we expected to have in a new member of our coaching staff,” said head coach Arthur Albiero<\/strong><\/a>. “We truly pursued a national and international search process to find the person who matched our vision.”<\/p>\n

Zorn coached middle distance freestyle for the Seminole men and women and helped coach the 4×200 free relay team that broke the men’s program record. He helped build the men’s relays into some of the fastest in the nation, as four of the five earned automatic bids to the NCAA Championships during the 2019-20 season. All five relays also stood on the podium at ACCs for the first time since 2009.<\/p>\n

The Seminole men finished fifth at the 2021 ACC Championships and placed 23rd<\/sup> at the NCAA Championships. The No. 25-ranked Florida State women finished seventh this past season at the conference meet and qualified three swimmers for NCAAs.<\/p>\n

Zorn also served as the international recruiter for both men and women and led dryland training for the student-athletes during the summer.<\/p>\n

“Nick checked all the boxes and he was the unanimous choice of our search committee. Nick will bring great passion for fast swimming and for developing young men and women into world class performers in and out of the pool,” continued Albiero. “He is a student of our sport and he is eager to learn and contribute to our current staff. We will have a few announcements coming soon, related to that.”<\/p>\n

Prior to his stint at Florida State, he served two seasons as a volunteer assistant at Alabama where he helped the Crimson Tide men achieve back-to-back NCAA top-15 finishes while being ranked in the CSCAA Top 25.<\/p>\n

In Tuscaloosa, Zorn spent the 2016-17 season working with the sprint group, including eventual SEC champion Robert Howard<\/strong>. He also led Justine MacFarlane\u00a0<\/strong>to a 16th-place finish in the 100 breast at the 2018 NCAA Championships, as well as a 12th-place showing in the 4×50 medley relay.<\/p>\n

Zorn was an All-American at Delta State University where he specialized in freestyle. He helped lead the Statesmen to five NSISC relay titles during his career and was the individual champion in the 100 free as a senior in 2016.<\/p>\n

A native of Arlington Heights, Ill., Zorn got his start in coaching during his senior season at Delta State by assisting the local club team, Delta Aquatic Club.<\/p>\n

“I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with a staff as passionate as this,” said Zorn. “Under Arthur’s leadership, Louisville has consistently reached new heights as a program and I am eager to learn and contribute everything I can. I can’t wait to get to The Ville and start working towards our goals.”<\/p>\n

The 2020-21 season was a historic one for the Cardinals, as they\u00a0won<\/a>\u00a0their first-ever men\u2019s ACC Championship title in dramatic fashion. The men then went on to clinch the first\u00a0NCAA relay title<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Nicolas Albiero<\/strong>\u00a0became the fifth UofL swimmer to ever win an\u00a0individual national title<\/a>.<\/p>\n
