{"id":475661,"date":"2021-06-10T21:38:21","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T04:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=475661"},"modified":"2021-06-10T21:38:21","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T04:38:21","slug":"cyndi-gallagher-charlie-kennedy-ray-looze-elected-to-asca-hall-of-fame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cyndi-gallagher-charlie-kennedy-ray-looze-elected-to-asca-hall-of-fame\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyndi Gallagher, Charlie Kennedy, Ray Looze Elected to ASCA Hall of Fame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UCLA women\u2019s swim coach <strong>Cyndi Gallagher,<\/strong> Suburban Swim Club coach <strong>Charlie Kennedy<\/strong> and Indiana University coach <strong>Ray Looze<\/strong> will be inducted to the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Hall of Fame in the class of 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/swimmingcoach.org\/announcing-the-2021-asca-hall-of-fame-inductees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the organization announced Thursday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gallagher retired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cyndi-gallagher-retires-after-31-years-as-head-coach-of-ucla-swimming-and-diving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">after the 2019 season<\/a> following 31 seasons as the women\u2019s head coach at UCLA. She compiled a record of 194-104-2 with nine top-10 finishes and 15 top-15 finishes at NCAAs. She has coached numerous Olympians and national champions, including <strong>Annette Salmeen<\/strong> and <strong>Kim Vandenberg.<\/strong> Gallagher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cyndi-gallagher-to-lead-dc-trident-alongside-all-female-coaching-staff-for-international-swimming-league\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">is currently coaching<\/a> the International Swimming League\u2019s DC Trident.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy has spent 35 years as the head coach of the Suburban Seahawks in suburban Philadelphia and more than 20 years leading Swarthmore College. He\u2019s turned SSC into a national powerhouse and been recognized as one of the nation\u2019s top age-group coaches. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/when-brendan-hansen-earned-world-record-status-and-vanquished-demons-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">He\u2019s mentored<\/a> Olympic gold medalist <strong>Brendan Hansen<\/strong> as well as national champions <strong>Grace Cornelius<\/strong> and <strong>Corrie Clark<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Looze has spent 18 years in charge of Indiana University, making it not just one of the top collegiate programs but one of the nation\u2019s foremost incubators of elite international post-grad talent. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ray-looze-explains-how-third-place-at-trials-motivated-him-to-be-great-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">He\u2019s mentored<\/a> 10 Olympic swimmers \u2013 including <strong>Lilly King, Cody Miller<\/strong> and <strong>Blake Pieroni<\/strong> \u2013 who have yielded seven medals. Looze coached for Team USA at the 2016 Olympics. The ASCA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/watch-ray-looze-and-others-accept-asca-coaching-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Coach of the Year in 2017<\/a> and CSCAA Coach of the Year in 2018, Looze has led Indiana to top-10 finishes each year in Bloomington, including 22 NCAA champions and nine Big Ten team championships.<\/p>\n<p>The coaches will be inducted in a ceremony Sept. 16 at the Rosen Hotel in Orlando as part of the ASCA World Clinic. The ASCA Hall of Fame class of 2021 continues a tradition dating back to 1958, recognizing coaches that have contributed to the history and success of American
