{"id":475473,"date":"2021-06-08T21:14:32","date_gmt":"2021-06-09T04:14:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=475473"},"modified":"2021-06-08T21:14:32","modified_gmt":"2021-06-09T04:14:32","slug":"maggie-meyer-inducted-to-wisconsin-athletic-hall-of-fame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/maggie-meyer-inducted-to-wisconsin-athletic-hall-of-fame\/","title":{"rendered":"Maggie Meyer Inducted to Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Swimmer <strong>Maggie Meyer<\/strong> is one of 11 members of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame\u2019s Class of 2021, announced this week.<\/p>\n<p>Meyer is the most decorated swimmer i<a href=\"https:\/\/uwbadgers.com\/honors\/uw-athletic-hall-of-fame\/maggie-meyer\/284\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">n program history<\/a>, becoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-division-i-womens-championships-maggie-meyer-claims-wisconsins-first-ncaa-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Badgers\u2019 first women\u2019s NCAA champion in 2011<\/a> when she won the 200 backstroke in her senior season with a time of 1:50.76. She was named the Big Ten Conference Swimmer of the Year in 2011 and earned Wisconsin\u2019s Big Ten Medal of Honor.<\/p>\n<p>Meyer was a 10-time Big Ten champion, 16-time All-Big Ten honoree and 18-time All-America (11 first team, seven honorable mentions). She was named Wisconsin\u2019s Female Athlete of the Year in 2009-10 and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten pick.<\/p>\n<p>Meyer left Wisconsin with six school records. She also was part of two relays, the 200 free and 200 medley, that set Big Ten records. Meyer won the 200 back at the 2009 U.S. Open. The native of White Bear Lake, Minn., was a member of the U.S. national team in 2009 and 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The other members of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame <a href=\"https:\/\/uwbadgers.com\/honors\/uw-athletic-hall-of-fame\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Class of 2021<\/a> are football player <strong>Gabe Carimi,<\/strong> runner <strong>Lloyd Cooke,<\/strong> hockey players <strong>Meghan Duggan<\/strong> and <strong>Blake Geoffrion,<\/strong> rowers <strong>Yasmin Farooq<\/strong> and <strong>Grant<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Ross James,<\/strong> wrestler <strong>Ron Jeidy,<\/strong> basketball player <strong>Jon Leuer<\/strong> and administrators <strong>Tam Flarup<\/strong> and <strong>Ron Leafblad.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Swimmer Maggie Meyer is one of 11 members of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame\u2019s Class of 2021, announced this week.
