Already qualified in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-olympic-trials-kate-mccarville-commands-400-im-cals-tyler-kopp-claims-wave-i-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">400-meter individual medley<\/a>, McCarville (Springfield Aquatics) notched a sweep of the medley events when she took first place in the 200-meter distance during Wave I action at the CHI Health Center.<\/p>\n<p>Powering through the freestyle leg, McCarville registered a career-best time of 2:15.09 to overtake runnerup <strong>Ella Bathurst<\/strong> (Tampa Elite Aquatics), who finished in 2:15.64. Bathurst had the lead at the 150-meter mark, but McCarville\u2019s freestyle leg of 31.36 was more than a second quicker than the 32.83 of Bathurst. Third place went to the Austin Swim Club\u2019s <strong>Malia Rausch<\/strong> (2:16.42), who surged from eighth at the third turn on the strength of a closing lap of 30.39.<\/p>\n<p>While McCarville and Bathurst advanced to Wave II based on their efforts in the individual medley, Rausch had previously qualified for extended duty in Omaha in the 200 freestyle. Behind Rausch in fourth place in the 200 IM was <strong>Trude Rothrock<\/strong>, who was previously third in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 100 butterfly. Rothrock was initially disqualified in the prelims, but that decision was overturned, with her reinstatement leading to a nine-athlete final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Results:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Kate McCarville, 2:15.09<br \/>\n2. Ella Bathurst, 2:15.64<br \/>\n3. Malia Rausch, 2:16.42<br \/>\n4. Trude Rothrock, 2:16.73<br \/>\n5. Danika Katzer, 2:17.25<br \/>\n6. Hannah Ownbey, 2:17.46<br \/>\n7. Diana Dunn, 2:18.70<br \/>\n8. Keelan Cotter, 2:19.32<br \/>\n9. Portia Brown, 2:19.42<\/p>\n<p>En route to victory in the men\u2019s 200 medley, Indiana\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/iuhoosiers.com\/sports\/mens-swimming-and-diving\/roster\/tristan-dewitt\/15149\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tristan DeWitt<\/strong><\/a> sliced nearly two seconds off his prelim time to touch the wall in 2:02.03. That effort handed DeWitt the edge over <strong>Spencer Aurnou-Rhees<\/strong>, who clocked in at 2:02.43. <strong>Kyle Maas<\/strong> was third in 2:03.03.<\/p>\n<p>DeWitt bolted to the front of the field on the opening butterfly leg and was tied for second at the midway point.
