During the episode, Hawke and Lohn discuss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/below-the-surface-a-new-book-on-the-history-of-the-sport-set-for-release\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lohn\u2019s latest book<\/a> and what might unfold at the upcoming Wave II of the United States Olympic Trials in Omaha.<\/p>\n<p>Lohn\u2019s fifth book, <a href=\"https:\/\/rowman.com\/ISBN\/9781538142936\/Below-the-Surface-The-History-of-Competitive-Swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Below the Surface: The History of Competitive Swimming<\/strong><\/a>, was recently released by Rowman &amp; Littlefield and highlights the history of the sport. Hawke asks Lohn how he began covering the sport, a tale which includes coming across <strong>Brendan<\/strong> <strong>Hansen<\/strong> as a high school athlete. They also review a few of the chapters from Lohn\u2019s book, including the decision by the International Olympic Committee to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimming-world-presents-a-gross-injustice-how-rick-demont-lost-his-1972-olympic-gold-days-after-winning-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">strip <strong>Rick DeMont<\/strong> of his gold medal<\/a> in the 400 freestyle from the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.<\/p>\n<p>The podcast also offers a free-flowing exchange between Hawke and Lohn about the Olympic Trials and some of the leading storylines in Omaha. Among the topics was the men\u2019s 50-meter freestyle, where <strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> is the obvious favorite, but where an intriguing battle is shaping up for the second spot at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Hawke and Lohn also discuss the career of <strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong>, who has developed from an age-group star into a prime contender to represent Team USA in Tokyo.
