US Olympic Trials: Rothrock Breaks 1:00 100 Fly For First Time at Wave I, Sauickie, Stewart Lead Heats<\/strong><\/p>\n

15-year-old\u00a0Addie Sauickie\u00a0<\/strong>of the Sarasota Sharks got the day started with a 4:15.96 in the 400 freestyle to take the top seed in tonight’s finals as she was just off her seed of 4:15.5. Sauickie is just outside the top 100 all-time in the 15-16 age group as a 4:14.55 sits 100th.<\/p>\n

Sauickie and Ohio State’s\u00a0Sally Tafuto\u00a0<\/strong>were the only swimmers to get under the Wave I Olympic Trials cut as the Buckeye is second for finals with a 4:16.77 after coming with a 4:16.0 on the heat sheet. Tafuto and Sauickie were next to each other in the heats this morning and will occupy the middle two lanes in tonight’s final.<\/p>\n

Last night’s 200 free champ\u00a0Malia Rausch\u00a0<\/strong>of Austin Swim Club is seeded third with a 4:17.26 as she came in as the second seed on the psych sheet. Swim Atlanta’s\u00a0Abigail McCulloh\u00a0<\/strong>(4:17.97) and South Florida’s\u00a0Mary Smutny\u00a0<\/strong>(4:18.35) placed fourth and fifth as Smutny came from the non-seeded heat to make the final.\u00a0Jillian Barczyk<\/strong> of Georgia is sixth at 4:18.36.<\/p>\n

Tennessee’s\u00a0Trude Rothrock\u00a0<\/strong>swam one of just two sub-minute 100 butterflys on Sunday morning at the Wave I Trials in Omaha as she was a 59.64, setting a new best time in the process. She and\u00a0Nikki Venema\u00a0<\/strong>of Tide Swimming were the only to break 1:00 as she was a 59.89, just off her seed of 59.86.<\/p>\n

Virginia’s\u00a0Lexi Cuomo<\/strong>, who made the final at NCAAs, dropped three tenths on her seed to a 1:00.10 as she is knocking on the door to break 1:00 and could do so tonight in the middle of the final. Cuomo was out in lane eight in her heat, finishing second to Venema, while fourth seed\u00a0Mia Kragh\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 1:00.11 from one of the non-seeded heats.<\/p>\n

15-year-old\u00a0Grey Davis\u00a0<\/strong>of Cavalier Aquatics swam a 1:00.51 as she added on her best of 1:00.2 which puts her 51st all-time in the 15-16 age group. She is behind\u00a0Lizzy Cook<\/strong> in today’s results summary as the Cal commit<\/a> is fifth at 1:00.35.<\/p>\n
