Thom de Boer Sets Dutch 50 Free Record Of 21.62 At Mare Nostrum<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thom de Boer<\/strong> set a Dutch 50 free record of 21.62 in the 50 free as the Monaco leg of the Mare Nostrum<\/strong> series concluded.<\/p>\n

Charlotte Bonnet, Kira Toussaint<\/strong> and Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> were among the winners but there were some notable performances in the Speed Tournament which followed the regular programme and featured two swimmers going head-to-head following a series of elimination races on Saturday.<\/p>\n

De Boer\u00a0<\/b>lowered his national record of 21.74 from the Rotterdam Qualification Meet<\/strong> in December 2020, slicing 0.12 as he finished some way in front of Bruno Fratus<\/strong> (22.04).<\/p>\n
It came a week after the Netherlands swimmer was fourth – 0.07 off the podium – at the European Championships.<\/p>\n
His time on Sunday would have secured the 29-year-old silver in Budapest, 0.01 behind champion Ari-Pekka Liukkonen<\/strong> of Finland.<\/p>\n
De Boer now owns the top-seven times by a Netherlands swimmer.<\/p>\n
In the women’s event, Olympic champion Pernille Blume<\/strong> went 24.34 ahead of Melanie Henique<\/strong> (24.96).<\/p>\n
Kregor Zirk<\/strong> lowered his Estonian 200 free record, cutting 0.05 from the mark he set in Stockholm last month to win in 1:47.01.<\/p>\n
Bonnet split 27.05\/27.07 to win the 100 free in 54.12 and added the two-length event to her 200 victory on Saturday.<\/a><\/p>\n
Toussaint – fresh from the agony of losing European silver<\/a> after finishing fourth in the re-swim last week in Budapest – won the 100 back in 59.41.<\/p>\n
Mimosa Jallow<\/strong> was 0.2 outside her own Finnish record in 1:00.48 with Hosszu third in 1:02.00.<\/p>\n
Yulia Efimova<\/strong> won the 200 breaststroke – an event in which she will not compete in Tokyo after finishing third in the Russian trials – in 2:25.61.<\/p>\n
Hosszu won the 200IM in 2:13.14 ahead of Frenchwoman Fantine Lessafre<\/strong>, the 2018 European 400IM champion clocking 2:14.65.<\/p>\n
The Hungarian also claimed bronze in the 200 fly which was won by Maria Jose Mata Cocco<\/strong> who set a Mexican record of 2:09.57 in the 200 fly, slicing 0.53 from the previous mark that had stood since June 2012.<\/p>\n
Christophe Brun<\/strong> won the men’s 200 back in 1:59.79, Valentin Bayer<\/strong> took the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.46 and Arjan Knipping<\/strong> won the 400IM in 4:16.24.<\/p>\n
Lisa Pou<\/strong> won the women’s 400 free in 4:24.92.<\/p>\n
Toussaint won her second title of the day in the speed tournament when she took the 50 back in 27.67 – 0.57 outside her European record of 27.10.<\/p>\n
Efimova topped the 50 breaststroke in 30.37 with Alba Guillamon Novo<\/strong> taking the women’s 50 fly in 27.38.<\/p>\n
Meiron Cherutti<\/strong> was 0.03 off his Israeli record in the 50 fly (23.43) with Juan Francisco Segura<\/strong> taking the men’s 50 back in 25.27.<\/p>\n
