{"id":474204,"date":"2021-05-25T16:38:25","date_gmt":"2021-05-25T23:38:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=474204"},"modified":"2021-05-25T18:23:38","modified_gmt":"2021-05-26T01:23:38","slug":"dave-geyer-steps-down-as-head-coach-of-lsu-swimming-diving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/dave-geyer-steps-down-as-head-coach-of-lsu-swimming-diving\/","title":{"rendered":"Dave Geyer Steps Down as Head Coach of LSU Swimming &#038; Diving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LSU head swimming and diving coach <strong>Dave Geyer<\/strong> has resigned, the school announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/david-geyer-doug-shaffer-named-co-head-coaches-at-lsu\/\">Co-head coach<\/a> <strong>Doug Shaffer<\/strong> will remain with the program as its diving coach.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to thank Dave for his dedication and commitment to LSU for 16 years,&#8221; athletic director <strong>Scott Woodward<\/strong> said <a href=\"https:\/\/lsusports.net\/news\/2021\/5\/25\/swimming-diving-lsu-swimming-coach-dave-geyer-steps-down.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in a press release<\/a>. &#8220;Coach Geyer represented LSU with class and made countless contributions to our athletics program \u2013 both in and out of the pool. Coach Geyer will always be a valued member of the LSU community, and I wish him well in his future endeavors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Geyer had been the head coach of the Tigers men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams for 11 years. He was 81-30-1 in men\u2019s dual meets and 28-42 in women\u2019s meets.<\/p>\n<p>Geyer joined the program as an assistant in 2005-06 and has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/morning-swim-show-dave-geyer-enjoying-the-process-as-lsu-head-coach\/\">in Baton Rouge for 16 years<\/a>. He led the Tigers to fifth-place finishes at the SEC Championships five times, the last for the women in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>LSU finished 18th at the NCAA Championships in 2021 with a pair of top-eight finishes from Brooks Curry. Curry was one of two SEC individual champions that Geyer mentored.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sixteen years ago I took a leap of faith, moved to Louisiana between two major hurricanes, and followed a path to coach at the Division I level,&#8221; Geyer said in the university release. &#8220;I never imagined that my career would stay at one place this long. Baton Rouge and the LSU community have been great for myself, my wonderful wife and two amazing daughters.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With a lot of thought and consideration I have decided to resign from my position as head coach. There have been a lot of hurdles along the way, but I walk away knowing I did everything I could to elevate the standard of this program moving forward.\u00a0 I am excited for the opportunities that lay ahead for me and my family.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LSU head swimming and diving coach Dave Geyer has resigned, the school announced Tuesday.
