Orlando\u2019s historic Lucky\u2019s Lake-Swim host <strong>Dr. \u201cLucky\u201d Meisenheimer<\/strong> is hosting the 3rd annual Lucky\u2019s Lake Swim Golden Mile\u00ae open water race on May 29. \u201cOur race will award real gold medals twice the gold content of an Olympic gold,\u201d said Lucky.<\/p>\n<p>The lure of gold has in the past has attracted legendary Olympic Gold medalists such as <strong>Brooke Bennett<\/strong>, triple Olympic Gold Medalist, and <strong>Josh Davis<\/strong>, Olympic Triple gold medalist. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ishof-is-proud-to-announce-master-of-ceremonies-for-honoree-induction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Rowdy Gaines<\/strong><\/a>, Triple Olympic gold medalist, will be announcing the event.<\/p>\n<p>This charitable event is partnered with the Global Swim Series. The Golden Mile\u00ae is identified as the GSS 2021 North American Open Water Mile Championship swim. The goal of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/globalswimseries.com\/\">Global Swim Series<\/a>\u00a0is to promote the sport of open water swimming worldwide.\u00a0GSS President <strong>Ron Kent <\/strong>commented, \u201cWe decided Lucky\u2019s 32nd year anniversary swim was the perfect venue for the American Championship mile swim.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A few\u00a0spots are still available; swimmers can sign up <a href=\"https:\/\/docluckysgoldenmile.com\/\">here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Meisenheimer has a vision of\u00a0increasing participation in open water swimming, leading to healthy living and clean water. \u201cAwarding real gold, silver, bronze to both the overall male and female winners and the overall \u2018Swimmer for the Ages\u2019 male and female. No one has awards like this \u2013 outside of the Olympics!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy swimming this race, you help keep our central Florida lakes clean,\u201d commented Meisenheimer. All proceeds will benefit the Lake Cane Restoration Society. The cause of restoring Lake Cane is an urgent issue as Florida faces the impact of development in its inland lakes, streams, and canals. The 501(c)3 Lake Cane Restoration Society (LCRS\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lakecane.com\">www.lakecane.com<\/a>\u00a0) is an all-volunteer Board dedicated to its mission of keeping Central Florida Lakes \u201cSwimmable, Fishable and Lovable.\u201d Nitrification is a national problem LCRS attempts to solve on a local level using only nature \u2013 and neighborhood engagement. \u201cSwim a Mile \u2013 Save a Lake,\u201d commented<strong> Jay Madigan<\/strong>, LCRS Executive Director. Lake Cane is an 80-acre lake in the northernmost headwaters of the Everglades, one of more than 700 of its kind in Central Florida. The lake is next door to the Universal Theme Parks in Orlando.<\/p>\n<p>Asked why he was making this extraordinary effort to host a race of this stature, Dr. Lucky Meisenheimer explained, \u201cImagine inspiring swimmers of all age groups, of every range of ability, they\u2019ll see Florida\u2019s nature at her best.\u201d His vision for the swim welcomes one and all. As Lucky\u2019s Lake Swim\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.luckyslakeswim.com\">www.luckyslakeswim.com<\/a>\u00a0founder Meisenheimer has hosted friends for swims from his backyard since 1989. Lucky, his wife, and children are accustomed to hundreds of open water swimmers visiting each week. Swimmers worldwide have accepted Lucky\u2019s invitation to what many are now calling Doc Lucky\u2019s Golden Mile. And there are still places left to register \u2013 which caps out at 300.
