{"id":474114,"date":"2021-05-24T12:10:33","date_gmt":"2021-05-24T19:10:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=474114"},"modified":"2021-05-24T12:10:33","modified_gmt":"2021-05-24T19:10:33","slug":"katie-mclaughlin-swims-157-200-free-at-santa-clara-weitzeil-puts-up-54-1-100-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-mclaughlin-swims-157-200-free-at-santa-clara-weitzeil-puts-up-54-1-100-free\/","title":{"rendered":"Katie McLaughlin Swims 1:57 200 Free at Santa Clara; Weitzeil Puts up 54.1 100 Free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cal postgrads\u00a0<strong>Katie McLaughlin\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>swam in their final tune-up meet in Santa Clara before the Olympic Trials that are three weeks away as they swam right on their season bests in the events that they will challenge for spots in Tokyo for.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-mclaughlin-answering-challenge-of-keeping-in-shape-for-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">McLaughlin<\/a> raced the 200 free, where she swam a 1:57.65, which was just off her 1:57.4 season best from earlier this year as she is ranked fifth nationally in the 200 freestyle. McLaughlin anchored the 4&#215;200 free relay at the 2019 Worlds to a silver medal and a new American record nearly two years ago as she will be a great asset for the Americans if she is to make the team in a relay. She did not swim the 100 fly, the event she made her international senior debut in at the 2019 Worlds, but she did swim a 25.67 in the heats of the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p>Katie McLaughlin&#8217;s teammate <strong>Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>raced the 50 and 100 free, events she made the 2016 Rio team out of high school in, as she swam a 24.61 in the 50, which was just off her 24.57 season best that puts her fourth in the nation. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/meet-the-team\/national-team\/bio\/abbigail-weitzeil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Weitzeil<\/a> also was a 54.18 in the 100 free that was also just off her 53.66 season best from the spring that puts her fourth nationally.
