Benedetta Pilato<\/strong> set a world 50m breaststroke junior record of 29.50 and Kristof Milak<\/strong> matched the championship mark of 50.64 in the 100 fly at the penultimate heats session of the European Championships<\/strong> in Budapest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

World silver medallist Pilato had set the previous WJR of 29.61 at the Italian Open in Riccione last December<\/a> and her time on Saturday – also an Italian record – sees the 16-year-old move to third all-time behind world record-holder Lilly King<\/strong> and Ruta Mielutyte<\/strong>, the European record-holder in 29.48.<\/p>\n

It cut 0.16 from the previous championship record of 29.66 set by Yulia Efimova<\/strong> in Glasgow in 2018.<\/p>\n

Milak, the world 100 fly silver medallist, swam the second-fastest 200 fly in history<\/a> of 1:51.10 en-route to gold on Wednesday and on Saturday morning, the 21-year-old split 24.15\/26.49 to go within 0.17 of his national record of 50.47 set at the Hungarian Nationals in March.<\/a><\/p>\n

Milak’s time matched Piero Codia<\/strong>‘s championship mark from Glasgow 2018 and was greeted with a wide smile.<\/p>\n

Thom de Boer<\/strong> was 0.02 outside his Netherlands 50 free record to lead the 50 free in 21.76 ahead of 2012 Olympic champion Florent Manaudou<\/strong> and defending champion Ben Proud.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Margharita Panziera<\/strong> returned after winning silver in the 100 back re-swim – a medal she felt she “hadn’t deserved”<\/a> – to comfortably lead the 200 back in which she is the defending champion in 2:08.52.<\/p>\n

Melanie Henique<\/strong> was only 0.06 outside her French record of 25.24 as she led the 50 fly field as she touched a body-length ahead in the final heat.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Backstroke<\/h3>\n

Panziera was the only woman inside 2:09 and led home Austria’s Lena Grabowski<\/strong> (2:09.12), 2018 bronze medallist Katalin Burian<\/strong> (2:09.54) and Eszter Szabo Feltothy\u00a0<\/b>(2:09.72).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Manaudou, looking to upgrade his silver at Rio 2016, was the first man inside 22 when he went 21.86 in the sixth heat.<\/p>\n

De Boer came in the following heat with Proud, who set the championship record of 21.11 at Glasgow 2018, stopped the clock at 21.93, 0.04 ahead of 100 free silver medallist Alessandro Miressi<\/strong> (21.97).<\/p>\n

Glasgow silver medallist Kristian Gkolomeev<\/strong> (1.98) and Ari-Pekka Liukkonen<\/strong> (21.99) were the other men inside 22.<\/p>\n

Kliment Kolesnikov<\/strong> – winner of the 100 free – squeezed into the semis in 16th in\u00a0 22.24.<\/p>\n

Henique was fifth in this event in Glasgow but she certainly left no-one in doubt of her intentions.<\/p>\n
