{"id":471877,"date":"2021-05-10T12:14:11","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T19:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=471877"},"modified":"2021-05-10T12:24:36","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T19:24:36","slug":"times-from-controversial-uzbekistan-meets-missing-from-fina-rankings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/times-from-controversial-uzbekistan-meets-missing-from-fina-rankings\/","title":{"rendered":"Times from Controversial Uzbekistan Meets Missing from FINA Rankings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Times from Controversial Uzbekistan Meets Missing from FINA Rankings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Times from a pair of meets in Uzbekistan have been removed from FINA\u2019s official rankings after allegations over timing fraud have been levied against that country.<\/p>\n<p>The times include not only results <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/aleksey-tarasenko-gets-a-cut-srihari-nataraj-just-misses-at-uzbekistan-champs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">from last month\u2019s<\/a> Uzbekistan Swimming Championships <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimmer-alleges-fraud-and-intimidation-to-qualify-for-olympics-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that spawned the allegations<\/a> but from November\u2019s Uzbekistan Open, affecting three Olympic A cuts and a B cut from foreign swimmers.<\/p>\n<p>The times disappearing from the rankings include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/competitions\/5\/olympic-games-tokyo-2020\/qualifications?gender=M&amp;distance=100&amp;stroke=FREESTYLE&amp;standard=all&amp;regionId=all&amp;countryId=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the 100 freestyle<\/a> A cut by <strong>Aleksey Tarasenko<\/strong> and A cuts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/competitions\/5\/olympic-games-tokyo-2020\/qualifications?gender=M&amp;distance=100&amp;stroke=BUTTERFLY&amp;standard=all&amp;regionId=all&amp;countryId=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in the 100 butterfly<\/a> by <strong>Adilbek Yusupboev<\/strong> and <strong>Eldor Usmonov <\/strong>that were attained last month. Those times had been in the rankings but no longer appear there. (It\u2019s worth noting that as of Sunday night, the 100 free A cut for <strong>Andre Calvelo<\/strong> at Brazilian Olympic Trials remains in the rankings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/report-anabolic-steroid-the-reason-for-andre-calvelo-positive-test-four-year-ban-possible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">despite a provisional suspension for a positive doping test<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Indian swimmer <strong>Sajan Prakah\u2019s<\/strong> time in the 200 fly from Uzbekistan is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/competitions\/5\/olympic-games-tokyo-2020\/qualifications?gender=M&amp;distance=200&amp;stroke=BUTTERFLY&amp;standard=all&amp;regionId=all&amp;countryId=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also not in the FINA rankings<\/a>, with a 1:58.03 from 2019 standing as his best. Also not included is the 52.74 posted by Prakash in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n<p>The latter time is the fastest ever by an Indian man, undercutting the 52.77 by <strong>Virdhawal Khade<\/strong> in 2009, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newindianexpress.com\/sport\/other\/2021\/apr\/27\/sajan-adithyas-uzbekmeet-records-not-ratified-2295357.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Swimming Federation of India has refused to ratify that record<\/a>. A time by <strong>Adithya Dinesh<\/strong> that would\u2019ve been an Olympic B cut is also not ratified.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monal Chokshi,<\/strong> the secretary general of the Swimming Federation of India, confirmed to <em>Swimming World<\/em> that FINA is reviewing the results of the Uzbekistan Open. FINA has not responded to a request for comment or clarification.<\/p>\n<p>Those times stem from an April meet in Tashkent. One of the participants in that meet, Indian breaststroker <strong>Likith Prema,<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/after-very-heartbreaking-experience-likith-prema-speaks-up-about-timing-manipulation-uzbekistan-refutes-allegations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posted a video detailing allegations of timing fraud and irregularities during the meet<\/a> to benefit Uzbekistani swimmers. Prema alleges that Indian swimmers were offered lowered times to look the other way, and Prema was threatened over an in-meet protest in which he refused to leave the block.<\/p>\n<p>The suspicions over Uzbekistan\u2019s meet practices appear to have expanded in scope. A foreign delegation that included 14 swimmers from the Czech Republic and seven from Kyrgyzstan <a href=\"https:\/\/en.aquatics.uz\/breaking-news\/post\/czech-national-swimming-team-has-started-joint-trainings-with-our-national-team\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">competed at the Uzbekistan Open last November<\/a>. That meet supplied three <a href=\"http:\/\/www.czechswimming.cz\/index.php\/9-tiskove-zpravy-verejne\/1722-seemanova-zaplavala-v-taskentu-cesky-rekord-stafeta-blizko-olympiade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">national records for Czech swimmers<\/a> \u2013 <strong>Barbora Seemanova<\/strong> in the 200 free (1:56.96) and 400 free (4:08.89) and <strong>Kristyna Horska<\/strong> in the 200 breast (2:25.24). The 200 free for Seemanova and 200 breast for Horska are A cuts. However, they don\u2019t appear in the rankings as of Sunday night.<\/p>\n<p>According to FINA\u2019s list of rankings, Seemanova <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/competitions\/5\/olympic-games-tokyo-2020\/qualifications?gender=F&amp;distance=200&amp;stroke=FREESTYLE&amp;standard=all&amp;regionId=all&amp;countryId=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">is still on there but with<\/a> an A cut of 1:57.16 from the 2019 World Championships in the 200 free. Her top time in the 400 free in listed as a B cut in 4:09.73. Horska\u2019s top time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/competitions\/5\/olympic-games-tokyo-2020\/qualifications?gender=F&amp;distance=200&amp;stroke=BREASTSTROKE&amp;standard=all&amp;regionId=all&amp;countryId=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in the 200 breast is listed<\/a> as a 2:26.93 from February.<\/p>\n<p>Horska and Seemanova joined <strong>Simona Kubova<\/strong> and <strong>Lucie Svecena<\/strong> to go 4:03.02 in the 400 medley relay, putting the Czech Republic in consideration for an Olympic at-large berth.<\/p>\n<p>Another A cut was produced at that meet, with Kyrgyzstan\u2019s <strong>Denis Petrashov <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nataccion.com\/kirguizistan-denis-petrashov-logra-la-minima-olimpica-en-100-braza-con-59-87\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">going 59.87<\/a>. That time is not listed in the rankings. Instead, the top time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/competitions\/5\/olympic-games-tokyo-2020\/qualifications?gender=M&amp;distance=100&amp;stroke=BREASTSTROKE&amp;standard=all&amp;regionId=all&amp;countryId=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">appearing in the rankings<\/a> by his name is a 1:00.94 he set at April\u2019s Russian Championships, which is a B cut. The times from Uzbekistan for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/athletes\/1020464\/barbora-seemanova\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seemanova<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/athletes\/1036024\/kristyna-horska\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Horska<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/athletes\/1019772\/denis-petrashov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Petrashov<\/a> are all listed under their FINA bios but do not appear as their top time in the rankings, as is the case for other swimmers. A spokesperson from the Czech Swimming Federation said they had not been informed as to any investigation regarding those times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Times from
