Zhang is now fourth all-time in China as she improved on her previous best time of 2:05.49 from earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Zhang has been swimming very well in the last 12 months as she has emerged as a medal contender in both butterfly events for this summer&#8217;s Olympics. Earlier this week, she put up the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/zhang-yufei-stars-at-chinese-trials-with-55-73-in-100-fly-yu-yiting-sets-wjr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fastest time in the world in the 100 butterfly<\/a>, an event that has become <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tokyo-vision-sarah-sjostrom-chases-history-repeat-in-womens-100-butterfly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">somewhat wide open and unpredictable<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>China has a rich history in the 200 butterfly, winning back to back Olympic golds in 2008 and 2012 as Zhang has put herself among the contenders to join that club. On night five in Qingdao, she and\u00a0<strong>Yu Liyan\u00a0<\/strong>were the only swimmers under the FINA A standard as Yu was a 2:07.03 to finish second.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udd39National Swimming Championships<\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udfca\u200d\u2640\ufe0fJiangsu&#39;s Zhang Yufei claimed her 2nd gold in the tournament by winning the women&#39;s 200m butterfly 2:05.44<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/swimming?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#swimming<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CHNswim_fan?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CHNswim_fan<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SwimNerds?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SwimNerds<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alexpussieldi?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@alexpussieldi<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GoJiangsu?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GoJiangsu<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Il7Z8Goejr\">pic.twitter.com\/Il7Z8Goejr<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; CGTN Sports Scene (@CGTNSportsScene) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CGTNSportsScene\/status\/1389868101987041281?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 5, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><strong>Yan Zibei<\/strong>, who is already on the team in the 100 breast, won the 200 breast at 2:10.80 ahead of\u00a0<strong>Qin Haiyang\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.16) to miss the FINA A standard of 2:10.35, but were both under the B standard of 2:14.26.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cheng Long\u00a0<\/strong>won the 800 free in the absence of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/chinese-federation-opens-door-for-sun-yang-to-race-at-tokyo-olympics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sun Yang<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>with a 7:55.43, a second over the A standard of 7:54.31. Sun has a potential to swim in Tokyo pending a CAS re-hearing this month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>He Junyi\u00a0<\/strong>also won the men&#8217;s 100 free with a 48.71 ahead of\u00a0<strong>Pan Zhanle\u00a0<\/strong>(48.74) and\u00a0<strong>Yang Jintong\u00a0<\/strong>(48.94) as the A standard was a 48.57.<\/p>\n<p>In semi-final action,\u00a0<strong>Yang Junxuan<\/strong>, fresh off an Asian record in the 200 free, leads the 100 free at 53.56 ahead of\u00a0<strong>Cheng Yujie\u00a0<\/strong>(54.10), while\u00a0<strong>Wang Yutian\u00a0<\/strong>is leading the 200 back field at 2:00.24 ahead of favorites\u00a0<strong>Li Guangyuan\u00a0<\/strong>(2:00.53) and\u00a0<strong>Xu Jiayu\u00a0<\/strong>(2:01.18).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yu Jingyao\u00a0<\/strong>is also on top of the women&#8217;s 200 breast field with a 2:27.43 ahead of\u00a0<strong>Ye Shiwen<\/strong>, on her last event to try to qualify for her third Olympics.
