The federation had narrowed the field <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kenya-swimming-federation-releases-provisional-squad-of-13-for-olympics\/\">to 13 finalists in February<\/a> before taking one man and one woman on the basis of FINA rankings. The federation published its selection procedures in a memo to athletes and coaches in January.<\/p>\n<p>Rosafio\u2019s performance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fina.org\/competitions\/88\/7th-fina-world-junior-swimming-championships-2019\/results?discipline=&amp;event=cb5c2743-37c5-42c4-a218-b2a64ab91423&amp;unit=heats-summary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in the 100 freestyle at World Juniors in 2019<\/a> was worth 730 FINA points. He went 52.09, finishing 44th. Muteti\u2019s 698 points in the women\u2019s 50 free at the All-Africa Games in 2019 earned her spot.<\/p>\n<p>Rosafio and Muteti both competed at the 2019 World Championships. Rosafio was 69th in the 50 free and 83rd in the 100 free. Muteti finished tied for 45th in the 50 free and 40th in the 100 fly. Neither of Kenya\u2019s Olympians in Rio \u2013 men\u2019s backstroker <strong>Hamdan Bayusuf<\/strong> and women\u2019s backstroker <strong>Talisa Laone<\/strong> \u2013 were among the finalists considered.<\/p>\n<p>Rosafio, 19, trains at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom with coach <strong>Gareth McNary.<\/strong> He swam at Bandari Swimming Club in in Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>Muteti swims at Grand Canyon University in Arizona. Muteti <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/northern-arizona-leads-wac-championships-with-diving-to-come\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">won the WAC Championship<\/a> in the 100 fly last month. She was third in the 50 free and second in the 100 free.
