He cites the \u201cindiscriminate killings\u201d of more than 600 civilians by the military and police, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/03\/04\/world\/asia\/myanmar-protests-women.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">including a 19-year-old taekwondo athlete<\/a>, <strong>Ma Kyal Sin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p><script async defer crossorigin=\"anonymous\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js#xfbml=1&#038;version=v10.0\" nonce=\"jTgOGS0R\"><\/script><\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-post\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/oowinhtet.mya\/posts\/297339011762334\" data-width=\"500\" data-show-text=\"true\">\n<blockquote class=\"fb-xfbml-parse-ignore\" cite=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/oowinhtet.mya\/posts\/297339011762334\"><p>Update. Myanmar Swimmer.<\/a> on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/oowinhtet.mya\/posts\/297339011762334\">Friday, April 9, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Since the MOC intends to send a delegation to the Tokyo Olympics, Win Htet Oo is withdrawing himself from consideration for that team.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>It is my belief that every ministry and minster that continues to fulfill the orders of Min Aung Hlaing and his puppet State Administration Council is acting to support the continued oppression of the Myanmar people. The MOC is a puppet organization for a military-regime that has ordered air strikes on defenceless civilians, ordered the killing of peaceful protestors, and continues to order the arrest (of) Myanmar\u2019s democratic activists, journalists, artists and sportspersons for their activism. Let there be no point of obfuscation, the president of Myanmar\u2019s Olympic Committee is a cabinet minister for a regime that continues to murder innocent people like Ma Kyal Sin.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Win Htet Oo is one of the nation\u2019s top swimmers. He attained a B cut in the men\u2019s 50 freestyle and is fractions of a second off of one in the 100 free. He holds national records in the 50, 100 and 200 free.<\/p>\n<p>Win Htet Oo was raised in Malaysia and attended high school in the Philippines. He swam <a href=\"https:\/\/gonyuathletics.com\/sports\/mens-swimming-diving\/roster\/win-htet-oo\/8627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">collegiately at New York University<\/a>. As he signed in his letter, he represented his country at the 2013 and 2019 Southeast Asian Games.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Win Htet Oo, 26-year-old Myanmar swimmer to skip the Tokyo Olympic in protest against the coup.<br \/>\nHis statement says \u201c I shall not march in the parade of the nations under a flag steeped in my people\u2019s blood\u201d. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WhatsHappeningInMyanmar?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WhatsHappeningInMyanmar<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TokyoOlympics?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TokyoOlympics<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Ir9lF8Tu1t\">https:\/\/t.co\/Ir9lF8Tu1t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hnin Zaw (@hninyadanazaw) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hninyadanazaw\/status\/1387041406900862983?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 27, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>He further contends that the MOC, given its installation by a \u201cmurderous military-junta,\u201d does not represent Myanmar or its people. He exhorted the IOC to \u201crefuse to acknowledge the MOC as the rightful organisation responsible for the Olympic Movement in Myanmar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From the letter:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>After two decades living in harmony with the values of Olympism I may be saying goodbye to a dream I\u2019ve had since I first learned to swim. Standing tall among the world\u2019s greatest athletes in equal turns I will not, but just as well I shall not march in the parade of nations under a flag steeped in my people\u2019s blood. The day will come when the Olympic Movement can enrich the lives of Myanmar\u2019s people.
