{"id":470641,"date":"2021-04-22T12:26:59","date_gmt":"2021-04-22T19:26:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=470641"},"modified":"2021-04-22T12:26:59","modified_gmt":"2021-04-22T19:26:59","slug":"irish-olympic-trials-hill-claims-third-record-of-the-week-mcgeever-sets-irish-400-free-mark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/irish-olympic-trials-hill-claims-third-record-of-the-week-mcgeever-sets-irish-400-free-mark\/","title":{"rendered":"Irish Olympic Trials: Hill Claims Third Record Of The Week &#038; McGeever Sets Irish 400 Free Mark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Danielle Hill<\/strong> reclaimed her national 100 free record and <strong>Finn McGeever<\/strong> set a new 400 free mark on day three of the <strong>Irish National Team Trials<\/strong> in Dublin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were however no more swimmers inside the cut for Tokyo to add to the quartet of <strong>Mona McSharry, Daniel Wiffen, Darragh Greene<\/strong> and <strong>Shane Ryan<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/irish-olympic-trials-mcsharry-lowers-national-100-breast-mark-to-106-29-as-quartet-make-the-cut\/\">who all qualified on the opening day.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/live-timings.swimireland.ie\/\">Link to results<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The women&#8217;s 4&#215;100 free quartet did though make the cut for next month&#8217;s <strong>European Championships<\/strong> in <strong>Budapest<\/strong> where they can qualify for the Olympics.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u26a1\ufe0f\u26a1\ufe0fDanielle Hill takes her 100m Freestyle record back!<\/p>\n<p>Victoria Catterson lowered her time last night, but the Larne swimmer replied tonight at Irish National Team Trials with 55.33!<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Iv1vje6v2k\">https:\/\/t.co\/Iv1vje6v2k<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TeamIreland?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TeamIreland<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TeamArenaIRL?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TeamArenaIRL<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/arenaUK_?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@arenaUK_<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LarneSwimClub?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LarneSwimClub<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SdQlvOD4sW\">pic.twitter.com\/SdQlvOD4sW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Swim Ireland (@swimireland) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/swimireland\/status\/1385291396534439941?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 22, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Hill&#8217;s time of 55.33 over two lengths of freestyle was her third record of the meet after twice lowering the 100 back mark.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 21-year-old had held the previous Irish best of 56.01 from 2019 which Ards\u2019 <strong>Victoria Catterson<\/strong> lowered to 55.44 in Wednesday night\u2019s semi-final.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hill returned to wrest back the mark with Catterson finishing second in 55.53.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNo pressure does amazing things. I was fuelled by Victoria\u2019s swim yesterday and my disappointment of the 100 backstroke, so all of that added together made up for a pretty nice swim.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cWe used to train at age-group level together in Templemore, so we\u2019ve known each other quite a while and it\u2019s nice to see Victoria starting to come through.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;It\u2019s much-needed for the relay, but also individually. I know how she works in the pool, and we train in the gym, so I know how hard she works in the gym too. She deserves it as much as I do.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s an exciting time. It hasn\u2019t sunk in yet, but I\u2019m pretty proud to have that title to my name.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I knew it was going to be better than 3:59 from the 200 free I did the other day, but I wasn\u2019t expecting that at all\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cWe all kinda cruised it this morning, but Liam (Custer) was still quite fast.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I wasn\u2019t sure what kind of form he was on, so I was just ready for a race. We hadn\u2019t really been training for the 400, we had been more focused on the 200, but obviously the 400 will improve as the 200 does.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the women\u2019s 400 free final, Ards\u2019 <strong>Amelia Kane<\/strong> took her second win of the week, adding to the 800m in 4:23.86.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Calum Bain<\/strong> once again dominated the 50m freestyle with the <strong>Cookstown SC<\/strong> and <strong>University of Stirling<\/strong> swimmer winning all three rounds to clock 22.55 in the final.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ahead of her 100 fly final in which she went 59.73, Ellen Walshe had also topped the field in the 200IM semi-finals and enters tomorrow\u2019s final as the fastest qualifier in 2:18.04.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the first semi-final, <strong>Ellen Keane<\/strong> (2:39.36), <strong>Nicole Turner<\/strong> (3:09.04) and <strong>Roisin Ni Riain<\/strong> (2:33.82) were all under the Minimum Qualification Standard (MQS) for the <strong>Paralympic Games<\/strong> in August.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the men\u2019s 200IM semi, <strong>National Centre Limerick\u2019<\/strong>s <strong>Cadan McCarthy<\/strong> progresses to the final as the fastest qualifier in 2:04.88.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Calum Bain<\/strong> once again dominated the 50m free with the Cookstown SC and University of Stirling swimmer winning all three rounds in the event, clocking 22.55 in the final.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 200m backstroke semi-final Enniskillen\u2019s <strong>Cora Rooney<\/strong>, swimming solo, clocked 2:26.63.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Advertising: Shop At Swim360<br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/ads.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/absolutebm.aspx?b=1546\"><\/script><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Danielle Hill reclaimed her national 100 free record and Finn McGeever set a new 400 free mark on day three of the Irish National Team Trials in Dublin.
