{"id":470217,"date":"2021-04-20T17:15:40","date_gmt":"2021-04-21T00:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=470217"},"modified":"2021-04-20T17:15:40","modified_gmt":"2021-04-21T00:15:40","slug":"fernando-scheffer-guilherme-basseto-take-national-titles-fina-a-standards-at-brazilian-trials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/fernando-scheffer-guilherme-basseto-take-national-titles-fina-a-standards-at-brazilian-trials\/","title":{"rendered":"Fernando Scheffer, Guilherme Basseto Take National Titles &#038; FINA A Standards at Brazilian Trials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Brazilian Swimming Olympic Trials continued Tuesday from Rio de Janeiro as four more swimmers qualified for the Tokyo Olympics by getting under the FINA A standard.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cbda.org.br\/br\/natacao\/evento\/34670\/seletiva-olimpica-brasileira-toquio-2020-2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fernando Scheffer\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Breno Correia\u00a0<\/strong>both achieved the FINA A standard in the 200 freestyle with Scheffer winning at 1:46.28 to Correia&#8217;s 1:46.72, as Louisville commit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-juniors-bronze-medalist-murilo-sartori-verbally-commits-to-louisville-for-fall-of-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Murilo Sartori<\/strong><\/a>, who was third at World Juniors in 2019, was third at 1:47.33.\u00a0<strong>Luiz Melo\u00a0<\/strong>finished in fourth to complete Brazil&#8217;s 4&#215;200 free relay outline with a 1:48.02. The Brazilians reached the final of the 4&#215;200 free at the 2019 Worlds and have an outside shot at a medal, which would mark the country&#8217;s first relay medal in swimming since the bronze in the 2000 Olympics in the 4&#215;100 free.<\/p>\n<p>Scheffer is now 12th in the world for 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guilherme Basseto\u00a0<\/strong>won the 100 backstroke with a 53.84, just getting under the 53.85 A standard that Brazil is using in selecting its team. Basseto finished ahead of\u00a0<strong>Guilherme Guido\u00a0<\/strong>(53.85) who tied the standard. Basseto is 14th in the world this year with his swim tonight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Etiene Medeiros\u00a0<\/strong>missed the Olympic standard in the women&#8217;s 100 back as she won with a 1:01.37, off the 1:00.25 standard for Tokyo. Medeiros has medaled at the last three Worlds in the 50 back.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s 100 breast,\u00a0<strong>Jhennifer Conceicao\u00a0<\/strong>won with a 1:08.08, slower than the 1:07.07 A standard while <strong>Gabrielle Goncalves\u00a0<\/strong>won the 400 free with a 4:10.88, which was slower than the 4:07.90 cut.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Brazilian Swimming Olympic Trials continued Tuesday from Rio de Janeiro as four more swimmers qualified for the Tokyo Olympics by getting under the FINA A standard.
