The Week That Was #1: Molly Renshaw, Duncan Scott Take British Records in London<\/h3>\n

Duncan Scott<\/strong>\u00a0ended the\u00a0British Swimming Selection Trials<\/strong>\u00a0with another record-breaking performance of 1:44.47 in the 200 free to head to the top of the rankings and ninth all-time.<\/p>\n

The two-time Olympic relay silver medallist set the previous British record of 1:44.91 at the\u00a02019 World Championships<\/strong>\u00a0in Gwangju where he won joint bronze with\u00a0Martin Malyutin<\/strong>\u00a0of Russia in 1:45.63.<\/p>\n

On Sunday he sliced a further 0.44 with\u00a0Tom Dean<\/strong>\u00a0also under the old record in 1:44.58 with the pair occupying the top two slots in the world rankings displacing Japan\u2019s\u00a0Katsuo Matsumoto<\/strong>\u00a0who went 1:44.65 earlier in April.<\/p>\n

It also fired them to ninth and 10th-fastest performers in the all-time rankings.<\/p>\n

Scott: 24.45\/50.25\/1:16.88\/1:44.47 (27.59)<\/p>\n

Dean: 23.98\/50.57\/1:17.36\/1:44.58 (27.22)<\/p>\n

Matt Richards<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the 18-year-old who qualified in the 100 \u2013 was third in 1:45.77, one place ahead of 2015 world champion\u00a0James Guy<\/strong>\u00a0(1:46.04) with\u00a0Calum Jarvis<\/strong>\u00a0also under the consideration time of 1:46.99 in 1:46.47.<\/p>\n

Molly Renshaw<\/strong>\u00a0set a new British 200br record of 2:20.89 with\u00a0Abbie Wood<\/strong>\u00a0also going under the previous mark at the\u00a0British Swimming Selection Meet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Renshaw had matched the previous record set by\u00a0Jocelyn Ulyett<\/strong>\u00a0in 2017\u00a0when she went 2:22.08 at the\u00a0Manchester International Swim Meet<\/strong>,<\/a>\u00a0something she obliterated on Thursday at the London Aquatic Centre.<\/p>\n

Wood, who trains alongside her under\u00a0Dave Hemmings<\/strong>\u00a0at Loughborough, set a huge PB of 2:21.69 as both women went inside the consideration mark.<\/p>\n

#2: Alex Baumann Named Swimming Australia CEO<\/h3>\n

Swimming Australia is delighted to announce that dual Olympic gold medallist,\u00a0Alex Baumann,<\/strong>\u00a0has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive of Swimming Australia.<\/p>\n

Baumann, the current Swimming Australia Chief Strategist\u00a0who leads the high performance arm of the organisation, is a Canadian native who won gold medals in the 200m and 400m individual medley at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.<\/p>\n

After returning to Canada to head up its high performance sport program (Own the Podium), Baumann was then appointed as Chief Executive of High Performance Sport New Zealand and is credited with helping New Zealand achieve its greatest ever Olympic team performance in Rio in 2016 with 18 medals.With a wealth of knowledge in elite sporting organisations, he is the former Executive Director for the Queensland Academy of Sport and Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Swimming.<\/p>\n

Baumann, who will start his new role in May, certainly has a clear message for the future of the sport, saying: \u201cIt is great to be able to put my CEO hat on again and take on the role leading the organisation into the future.<\/p>\n

The Week That Was #3: Anthony Nesty to Lead Both Florida Programs<\/h3>\n

Anthony Nesty<\/strong>\u00a0adds women\u2019s head coaching duties after three successful seasons as the head coach of the men\u2019s team, Florida athletic director\u00a0Scott Stricklin<\/strong>\u00a0announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The men\u2019s program has won the Southeastern Conference championship all three seasons under Nesty and finished third at the 2021 NCAA Championships. With Nesty helping lead the way, the men\u2019s team has won nine straight SEC titles.<\/p>\n

Nesty, who swam at Florida and was a\u00a0gold medalist in the 1988 Olympics<\/a>, has been on staff with the Florida swimming and diving program since joining as an assistant coach in 1999. He was promoted to associate head coach in 2006 and stepped in as men\u2019s head coach in 2018 following the retirement of\u00a0Gregg Troy<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am honored and excited to be entrusted with the women\u2019s swimming and diving program,\u201d Anthony Nesty said.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cThe men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams have worked closely throughout my time at Florida, and I appreciate the opportunity to lead both programs. We will continue to hold ourselves to the highest standards and push ourselves to be excellent in everything we do.\u201d<\/p>\n

#4: ISL Announces Draft For Season 3<\/h3>\n

The International Swimming League (ISL) has announced that Season 3 will include a swimmer draft as the league aims for more competition.<\/p>\n

The draft will include a list of athletes retained by their original teams and what spots will be open for free-agent-style swimmers and new additions to the league.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the league\u2019s first two seasons, ISL clubs signed swimmers on an individual basis. Moving forward, the ISL Draft, which will be open to qualified swimmers worldwide, aims to ensure that i) lower-ranked teams have priority in strengthening their position in the upcoming season; ii) ISL clubs\u2019 General Managers can implement their team\u2019s selection strategy in an open and transparent manner; and iii) ISL\u2019s loyal fans are provided with the unique opportunity to have a say in the teams\u2019 selection process, further increasing their engagement,\u201d the ISL stated.<\/p>\n

TYR Sport on Thursday announced the signing of\u00a0Michael Andrew,<\/strong>\u00a0adding the world champion American swimmer to its ranks of athletes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to partner with Michael Andrew on his road to Tokyo,\u201d\u00a0Matt DiLorenzo,<\/strong> CEO of TYR Sport, said in a press release. \u201cMichael is an incredibly talented and versatile athlete, who has already seen tremendous success at a young age.
