{"id":469804,"date":"2021-04-16T07:18:58","date_gmt":"2021-04-16T14:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=469804"},"modified":"2021-04-16T14:14:03","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T21:14:03","slug":"isl-announces-first-draft-to-be-part-of-season-3-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/isl-announces-first-draft-to-be-part-of-season-3-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"International Swimming League Announces Draft For Season Three"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">The International Swimming League (ISL) has announced that Season 3 will include a swimmer draft as the league aims for more competition.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The draft will include a list of athletes retained by their original teams and what spots will be open for free-agent-style swimmers and new additions to the league.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over the league\u2019s first two seasons, ISL clubs signed swimmers on an individual basis. Moving forward, the ISL Draft, which will be open to qualified swimmers worldwide, aims to ensure that i) lower-ranked teams have priority in strengthening their position in the upcoming season; ii) ISL clubs\u2019 General Managers can implement their team\u2019s selection strategy in an open and transparent manner; and iii) ISL\u2019s loyal fans are provided with the unique opportunity to have a say in the teams\u2019 selection process, further increasing their engagement,&#8221; the ISL stated.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/international-swimming-league\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">More International Swimming League News<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For the 2021 season, each team will put together a roster of a maximum of 36 swimmers as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One week prior to the ISL Draft date, each General Manager will publicly announce the names of five swimmers from the Season 2 (2020) rosters that will be retained by their team;<\/li>\n<li>The suspense continues as we find out which other Season 2 members of each team (a maximum of 10) will be retained by their current club, and who will be sent to the ISL Draft Pool;<\/li>\n<li>Following this, ISL fans will have the ability to vote on retaining one additional member for each team, making the ISL Draft a truly interactive fan experience;<\/li>\n<li>Each club, starting from the previous season\u2019s lowest ranked, will then be given the opportunity to select 11 additional swimmers from the ISL Draft Pool, bringing the total maximum number of swimmers, retained and selected during the ISL Draft period, to 27;<\/li>\n<li>The selection process will conclude with General Managers completing their teams\u2019 rosters, selecting from the remaining swimmers in the ISL Draft Pool only, over a period of 30 days (maximum 36).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2018\u2019The International Swimming League continues to innovate in creating a professional competitive experience unprecedented in swimming history. By introducing the ISL Draft, the league is adding yet another element of excitement and intrigue ahead of its third season,\u2019\u2019 said ISL Founder K<strong>onstantin Grigorishin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018Our ISL Draft, revolutionary in swimming, will combine team strategy and individual strategy, while giving a chance to the league\u2019s fans to have their say on who they want to see on their favorite team.
