European silver medallist Max Litchfield<\/strong> led the way into the final in 4:14.67 – 0.08 quicker than the time in which he finished seventh at the 2019 worlds in Gwangju<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Litchfield set the British record of 4:09.62 at the 2017 World Championships where he was fourth, missing out on the podium by 0.48 as Daiya Seto<\/strong> took bronze.<\/p>\n

That followed the Loughborough swimmer’s fourth place in Rio, again one place behind Seto.<\/p>\n

Litchfield’s younger brother Joe was inside the consideration time<\/a> as Duncan Scott<\/strong> broke Max’s 200IM record in 1:55.90 on day one as the elder sibling finished third.<\/p>\n

Jacob Greenow<\/strong> was second through in 4:20.13 and Charlie Hutchinson<\/strong> third in 4:20.42.<\/p>\n

Commonwealth champion Alys Thomas<\/strong> led three swimmers under 2:10 into Friday night’s final.<\/p>\n
Thomas – who set a PB of 2:05.45 en-route to 2018 Commonwealth gold – stopped the clock at 2:09.02 ahead of Laura Stephens<\/strong> (2:09.04) and Emily Large<\/strong> (2:09.64).<\/p>\n

European junior champion Matt Richards won the first heat in a PB 48.78 with 16-year-old Jacob Whittle<\/strong> also going a lifetime best of 49.3 for second as the first four men went under 50 seconds.<\/p>\n
Jack Thorpe<\/strong> won the second heat in 49.73 before Scott took to the water occupying lane four in the final heat.<\/p>\n
Scott was out in 23.39 – second behind Tom Dean’s 23.18 – and came back in 24.80 to spearhead what promises to be a corking final on Friday evening.<\/p>\n
The next three men all clocked PBs: Dean (48.53), Richards (48.78) and Joe Litchfield (48.90).<\/p>\n
To make the final took 49.78 with Calum Jarvis, Scott McLay and David Cumberlidge among those locked out.<\/p>\n

James Wilby<\/strong> booked a slot in the 100br in 58.76 as Adam Peaty<\/strong> made his 15th journey inside 58 seconds.<\/a><\/p>\n
Although Ross Murdoch<\/strong> has enjoyed international success over 100 including 2015 world bronze,\u00a0 he is the 200 British record holder with a time of 2:07.30 from the 2014 Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
The University of Stirling<\/strong> swimmer competed over the shorter distance at Rio 2016,<\/strong> locked out of the final by one place, and will be seeking to book his slot over four lengths in Tokyo.<\/p>\n
Murdoch went in heat one with a fine morning swim of 2:09.90 with Wilby booking lane five for the final in the second heat in 2:10.29.<\/p>\n
