TYR embodies excellence, and I\u2019m thrilled to be a part of the family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andrew, who turns 22 on April 18, has been a significant player on the global swimming scene for the last half-decade. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-andrew-turns-pro-at-14-years-old-youngest-swimmer-to-do-so\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">turned pro at age 14<\/a>, taking the unusual step of bypassing college competition. (He first appeared in <em>Swimming World<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/flashback-michael-andrew-as-a-10-year-old-in-swimming-world-magazine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">at age 10<\/a>.) But he\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-andrew-reflects-on-facing-criticism-for-turning-pro-at-young-age-what-events-he-is-focusing-on-for-olympic-trials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">made the most of that path<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It started at the 2015 World Junior Championships, where he won the gold medal in the 50 backstroke to go with three silvers and a relay bronze. He was named the Male Swimmer of the Meet at that meet in Singapore. He added three golds and two bronze at World Juniors in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Against elite swimmers, Michael Andrew garnered gold in the 100 individual medley at the 2016 World Short-Course Championships to go with a pair of silver medals in relays. He won five relay medals at the 2018 short-course worlds and was part of the American\u2019s silver-winning men\u2019s medley relay at the 2019 World Championships. Andrew also competes in the International Swimming League for the New York Breakers, serving as a vice captain in the team\u2019s second year.<\/p>\n<p>A consummate sprinter, the Edina, Minn., native has developed the range in his program to be a contender at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials in several events, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-andrew-blasts-157-9-200-im-in-mission-viejo-cox-puts-up-210-0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">up to the 200 IM<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Andrew joins the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tyr.com\/shop\/team-tyr-athletes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">roster of swimmers sponsored by TYR<\/a> that includes <strong>Katie Ledecky, Simone Manuel, Ryan Lochte, Lilly King, Melanie Margalis, Tom Shields, Kelsi Dahlia, Molly Hannis<\/strong> and <strong>Ashley
