Texas A&M\u2019s Shaine Casas<\/strong> and Alabama\u2019s Rhyan White<\/strong> were named the SEC Swimmers of the Year Wednesday in the postseason<\/a> All-SEC Awards.<\/p>\n

Seven schools split the 12 swimmer and coaching honors, including six different schools on the men\u2019s side. Leading the way was A&M with three \u2013 Casas, Female Diver of the Year Charlye Campbell<\/strong> and Women\u2019s Diving Coach of the Year Jay Lerew.<\/strong> LSU picked up a pair of diving honors with Male Diver of the Year Juan Celaya-Hernandez<\/strong> and Female Freshman Diver of the Year Montserrat Gutierrez Lavenant.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kentucky\u2019s coaches cleaned up, with Lars Jorgensen<\/strong> as the Women\u2019s Swimming Coach of the Year and Ted Hautau<\/strong> as the Men\u2019s Diving Coach of the Year. Anthony Nesty<\/strong> of Florida is the Men\u2019s Swimming Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n

Tennessee supplied the top men\u2019s freshman diver (Bryden Hattie<\/strong>) and women\u2019s freshman swimmer (Mona McSharry<\/strong>). Jake Magahey<\/strong> is the Men\u2019s Freshman Swimmer of the Year.<\/p>\n

Casas split the Commissioner\u2019s Trophy for high scorer at the men\u2019s SEC Championships<\/a> with Florida\u2019s Kieran Smith.<\/strong> He won the 200 IM and 200 backstroke, the latter in meet-record time, at SECs. He added a victory with the Aggies in the 800 free relay, which finished third at NCAAs<\/a>. Casas won the 200 IM, 100 back and 200 back at NCAAs, coming within .02 of Ryan Murphy\u2019s NCAA record in the 200 back.<\/p>\n

White also share the Commissioner\u2019s Trophy for the SEC women\u2019s championships<\/a>, even with Georgia\u2019s Zoie Hartman.<\/strong> White had an unforgettable meet for the Crimson Tide. The junior led off their victorious 200 medley relay. She won the 100 fly, repeated as the 100 back champ and set a pool record to claim a second straight 200 back title. At NCAAs<\/a>, White made three A finals and garnered a pair of silver medals in the backstroke events. She was also fifth in the 100 fly, and her Alabama relays were sixth in the 200 medley and ninth in the 400 medley.<\/p>\n

Magahey made an instant impact for Georgia. He won the 200 free at his first SECs, and it took record performances to deny him another win. He was second to Smith\u2019s tying of his NCAA record in the 500 free and second to Bobby Finke\u2019s<\/strong> pool record in the mile. Magahey would win the NCAA title in the 500 in a meet record time. He finished second in the mile, 12th in the 200 free and helped Georgia to sixth in the 800 free relay.<\/p>\n

McSharry put in a full plate of seen swims at her first NCAAs. She topped at third place in the 200 breast to go with fourth in the 100 breast. She was also 19th in the 50 free. McSharry helped four Volunteers relays makes NCAAs, getting as high as fifth twice (400 medley, 400 free). McSharry was second to Hartman in the 100 breast at SECs and fourth in the 200 breast. She was part of three Vols relays (200 free, 400 medley, 400 free) to earn podium finishes.<\/p>\n

Celaya-Hernandez was again a force for the Tigers. He won the 1-meter title at SECs, finished second at 3-meter and was fourth on platform. The Mexican international earned bronze medals at NCAAs in both the springboard events.<\/p>\n

Campbell capped her distinguished A&M career with a boatload of medals. She won the 3-meter SEC title and was fourth on 1-meter. She finaled in both events at NCAAs, the senior earning seenth place in both.<\/p>\n

Hattie began his career as a volunteer by winning the SEC title on platform. He also finished sixth at SECs on 3-meter. He qualified for all three events at NCAAs, making a pair of consolations finals in finishing ninth on platform and 10th on 3-meter.<\/p>\n

Lavenant was the only freshman to make the platform final at SECs, and one of only two rookies to make either of the diving finals at the meet. She finished fourth there. She qualified for NCAAs in both the 1-meter and platform. She finaled in the latter, taking ninth place, and finished 17th on 1-meter.<\/p>\n
