{"id":469551,"date":"2021-04-14T09:11:40","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T16:11:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=469551"},"modified":"2021-04-14T09:11:40","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T16:11:40","slug":"acc-honors-paige-madden-named-scholar-athlete-of-the-year-all-academic-teams-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/acc-honors-paige-madden-named-scholar-athlete-of-the-year-all-academic-teams-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"ACC Honors: Paige Madden, Nicholas Albiero Named Scholar-Athlete of the Year; All-Academic Teams Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Virginia senior <strong>Paige Madden<\/strong> was named the ACC Women\u2019s Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Virginia men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming &amp; diving teams had 21 student-athletes named to the All-ACC Academic teams, the conference office announced on Wednesday (April 14).<\/p>\n<p>Louisville&#8217;s <strong>Nicholas Albiero<\/strong> earned the men&#8217;s honor. He helped the Cardinals to their first ACC Championship this season and won three ACC titles. The senior from Louisville, Kentucky, also captured the 200 butterfly at the 2021 NCAA Championships, winning the third straight title in the event by an ACC swimmer.<\/p>\n<p>Madden earned her second consecutive ACC Women\u2019s Scholar-Athlete Award. An ACC Postgraduate Scholarship Award winner, Madden was recently named a Honda Sports Award Finalist for swimming &amp; diving. Madden is a two-time ACC Swimmer of the Year and of the Meet. She led Virginia to its first-ever NCAA Championship title in 2021 after capturing three individual races and one relay title, the most of any swimmer at the meet. She holds 14 CSCAA All-America honors and is a 13-time ACC Champion. Recently, she was named the 2021 Weaver-James-Corrigan ACC Postgraduate Scholarship Award recipient.<\/p>\n<p>The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.<\/p>\n<p>Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one\u2019s academic career.
