Ledecky improved on her 15:42 season best from March as she is looking to win the inaugural gold medal in Japan this summer with the 1500 making its long awaited debut this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The time for Ledecky is 14th all-time and is only two seconds behind\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/best-race-of-all-time-katie-ledecky-overpowers-lotte-friis-for-world-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Lotte Friis<\/strong><\/a> as the second fastest performer ever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ashley Twichell<\/strong>, who is already on the team in the 10K, finished second in her best pool race with a 16:06.68 as she was a 16:04 in March. She won ahead of Arizona State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma Nordin\u00a0<\/strong>(16:11.23) and Mission Viejo&#8217;s <strong>Haley Anderson\u00a0<\/strong>(16:13.15). Anderson is also already on her third Olympic team by virtue of her silver medal in the 10K at the 2019 Worlds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leah Smith\u00a0<\/strong>swam the first 100 to get a split, but withdrew to focus on the 200 IM final coming up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eT-S1MVSqiM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jordan Wilimovsky\u00a0<\/strong>won the men&#8217;s 1500 with a 15:10.44, which is the second fastest time for an American this year behind only\u00a0<strong>Zane Grothe\u00a0<\/strong>(15:10.29). Wilimovsky is already on the team for the 10K but will have a chance to make his second trip to the Olympic pool in the 1500 freestyle this summer. He won this morning in California ahead of Mission Viejo&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Will Gallant\u00a0<\/strong>(15:21.15) and Indiana&#8217;s <strong>Mikey Calvillo\u00a0<\/strong>(15:42.38).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arik Katz<\/strong>, who is a freshman at Harvard and a former national junior team swimmer, was fourth at 15:43.67, ahead of fellow Ivy
