Dressel earlier won the 200 freestyle ahead of\u00a0<strong>Andrew Seliskar<\/strong>, who was also in this 100 fly field.<\/p>\n<p>Seliskar was third at 52.21 ahead of fellow Cal postgrads\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>(52.27) and\u00a0<strong>Tom Shields\u00a0<\/strong>(52.39).<\/p>\n<p>Dressel&#8217;s swim makes him the fastest American this year, passing\u00a0<strong>Shaine Casas\u00a0<\/strong>(51.91) in the national rankings as Dressel is the two-time reigning World champ in the 100 butterfly and is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tokyo-vision-youthful-contenders-veteran-medalists-chasing-caeleb-dressel-in-100-fly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">favorite to win the event in Tokyo<\/a>. The second spot behind Dressel looks fairly wide open at the moment in American circles, as Shields was the second American finalist at the last Olympics with <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong>, who has since retired. Shields is searching for his second Olympic berth as his time today was only a tenth slower than his 52.2 season best.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qgH94pY_nZI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kelsi Dahlia\u00a0<\/strong>took a win in the 100 butterfly with a 58.11 on Friday morning at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Mission Viejo as she led from start to finish and was long into the wall. Dahlia improved on her season best of 58.2 from March as she is the second fastest American thus far in 2021 behind\u00a0<strong>Regan Smith<\/strong>, who is not currently in Mission Viejo racing.<\/p>\n<p>Dahlia has been the main butterflyer for the United States since\u00a02017 as she has been on the gold medal winning medley relays at the last two World Championships. She won today ahead of Texas A&amp;M grad\u00a0<strong>Beryl Gastaldello\u00a0<\/strong>(58.56) and\u00a0<strong>Katie McLaughlin\u00a0<\/strong>(58.56), who just got out of the 200 free where she tied for third.
