﻿{"id":468524,"date":"2021-04-07T06:52:12","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T13:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=468524"},"modified":"2024-10-28T10:56:46","modified_gmt":"2024-10-28T17:56:46","slug":"brisbane-teen-elizabeth-dekkers-clocks-207-25-for-the-fourth-fastest-200m-butterfly-of-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brisbane-teen-elizabeth-dekkers-clocks-207-25-for-the-fourth-fastest-200m-butterfly-of-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Brisbane Teen Elizabeth Dekkers Clocks 2:07.25 For The Fourth Fastest 200m butterfly Of 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brisbane schoolgirl <strong>Elizabeth Dekkers<\/strong> has wasted no time staking another flying leap towards Tokyo selection, clocking the fourth fastest time in the world this year with her stunning 200m butterfly of\u00a0 2:07.25 (28.86; 1:01.23;1:33.61) on a rain swept Gold Coast tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Dekkers (Newmarket Racers, QLD) tore her own 16 years Australian and Australian All-Comers records apart \u2013 ripping 0.57 off her own previous Australian marks of 2:07.82 set at the Queensland State Championships in December.<\/p>\n<p>The time has only been bettered in the first three months of 2021 by: <strong>Boglarka Kapas<\/strong> (HUN) 2:06.85; <strong>Hali Flickinger<\/strong> (USA) 2:07.20 and <strong>Suzuka Hasegawa<\/strong> (JPN) 2:07.24.<\/p>\n<p>It also sneaks her into the Australian All-Time Top Ten \u2013 joining the who\u2019s who of the Dolphins butterfliers \u2013 including Olympic champions <strong>Susie O\u2019Neill, Petria Thomas<\/strong> and <strong>Stephanie Rice <\/strong>and is well under the Olympic qualifying standard of 2:08.43.<\/p>\n<p>Coached by Bob and Steve Miller, Dekkers owned the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre on the opening night of the 2021 Australian Age Swimming Championships, declaring she was thrilled with her result and added it was wonderful to be back racing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels really good to continue to bring that time down, so I\u2019m happy with that \u2013 I just wanted to be strong in the first 100m and just try to hold on,\u201d Dekkers said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always try and swim my own race, but I was looking beside me the whole time. Photo Courtesy: Delly Carr (Swimming Australia).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In a frantic burst for the wall, Toowoomba\u2019s Brisbane-based <strong>Isaac Cooper<\/strong> (Rackley Swim Team) and<strong> Edward Speller<\/strong> (Melbourne Vicentre) had spectators on their feet but it was Cooper (22.86), only three one hundredths of a second in front of Speller\u2019s 22.89.<\/p>\n<p>Uni of Queensland\u2019s <strong>Bryce Belcher <\/strong>(22.98)won the bronze.<\/p>\n<p>It was all <strong>Bailey Lello<\/strong> (Churchie, QLD) in the Boys 17-years 100m Breaststroke, edging out Knox Pymble\u2019s <strong>Joshua Collett<\/strong> and <strong>Yannik Zwolsman <\/strong>to claim the Australian Age title. Sally Vagg from Rocky City snared silver in 1:01.56 while Giselle Davey from Firbank Aquastars snuck in from lane one to bag bronze in 1:02.63.<\/p>\n<p>MLC Flippers squad mates <strong>Ella Ramsay <\/strong>(St Peters Western) and <strong>Sydney Brown<\/strong> (Wests Illawara) went stroke-for-stroke in the Girls 16-years 100m Freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>In a gripping contest it was Ramsay who managed to take the gold in 55.30 ahead of Brown (55.87).
