Virginia<\/a> head coach\u00a0Todd DeSorbo\u00a0<\/strong>chatted with\u00a0Brett Hawke\u00a0<\/strong>on his podcast, Inside with Brett Hawke, about the recent national championship<\/a> he won at the women’s NCAAs in Greensboro and his assessment of the men’s meet, where his team finished in ninth place. DeSorbo is in his fourth season at the University of Virginia as he came from NC State in the fall of 2017 and helped Virginia win its first NCAA title.<\/p>\n

DeSorbo talked about the struggles that being a head coach brings and what he believes he has done well (13:00) in creating the environment in Charlottesville. He went over how he manages both the men’s and women’s teams (20:00), and how he prepared the teams for the 2021 NCAAs this season after ACCs when there was so much uncertainty (21:00). He detailed the double taper and what the workload entails between those two weeks.<\/p>\n

Todd DeSorbo explained how he has been able to recruit so well, picking up big time recruits like Gretchen Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Claire Tuggle\u00a0<\/strong>for future classes, and went over the process of recruiting (31:00) he has taken on.<\/p>\n

DeSorbo finished the podcast by talking about the impact\u00a0Eddie Reese\u00a0<\/strong>has had on his career (33:30), bringing up a specific summer where he took some of the NC State sprinters down to Austin to train with the Texas team, as well as what Reese said to him in how long it would take to develop a championship team at the college level.<\/p>\n
