Finke took it out more controlled compared to his own record pace, sitting about three seconds above record pace through the 800, as he turned it on over the back half but ran out of room as he started closing the gap tenth by tenth.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, Finke won his second event of the weekend after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/bobby-finke-runs-down-foster-with-23-8-final-50-to-win-400-im-ncaa-title-for-gators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">400 IM last night<\/a> and won well ahead of 500 champ\u00a0<strong>Jake Magahey\u00a0<\/strong>of Georgia (14:28.69) and NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ross Dant\u00a0<\/strong>(14:31.17) in second and third. Arizona senior\u00a0<strong>Brooks Fail\u00a0<\/strong>placed fourth from the earlier heats at 14:31.38 as he was the top senior in the field.
