Kristof Milak<\/strong> clocked 51.07 in the 100 fly and set up another intriguing battle with Nandor Nemeth<\/strong> in the 200 free on the final night of heat swims at the Hungarian Nationals<\/strong> in Budapest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Boglarka Kapas<\/strong> and Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> were among the qualifiers for Saturday morning’s finals while Richard Bohus<\/strong> produced a notable effort in the 50 back.<\/p>\n

Milak split 23.88\/27.19 in the two-length fly heat, 0.45 outside the national record of 50.62 he set in the same pool at the 2017 World Championships\u00a0<\/strong>en-route to silver in a world junior record that stands today.<\/p>\n

It propelled the 21-year-old to the top of the rankings and would have secured him the bronze medal at the 2019 worlds<\/strong> in Gwangju<\/strong> where he swam 51.26 for fourth.<\/p>\n

Behind him came Hubert Kos<\/strong> – 18 on Sunday – in 51.52, Szebaszti\u00e1n Szab\u00f3<\/strong> (52.20) and Laszlo Cseh<\/strong> (53.53) who shared the silver medal at Rio 2016<\/strong> with Michael Phelps<\/strong> and Chad Le Clos.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

That followed the 200 free heats – the first event of the afternoon – where Nemeth and Milak returned from their morning battle over 100 in which the latter set a national record of 48.00.<\/p>\n
It was Nemeth who qualified first although an intriguing prospect awaits given Milak’s 1:44.86 split as he anchored a 4×200 quartet to a national mark of 7:07.67 on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n
Milak was ahead at the first turn with Nemeth overhauling him on the second 50, a lead he maintained throughout to touch in 1:46.87.<\/p>\n
Milak booked lane five in 1:47.52 with Hungarian record-holder Dominik Kozma<\/strong> next home in 1:48.86.<\/p>\n
Hosszu Through In Two; Kapas Flies To The Front<\/h3>\n
Kapas – who went 2:06 earlier this week in the 200 fly – booked lane four over 100m in 59.43 with just 0.07 separating Dalma Sebesty\u00e9n<\/strong> – fresh from heading the 50br heats in 31.45 – Dora Hath\u00e1zi<\/strong> and Hosszu.<\/p>\n

Laura Veres<\/strong> was the only woman to go inside two minutes in the 200 free, going 1:59.14 ahead of Fanni F\u00e1bi\u00e1n<\/strong> (2:00.40) and Ajna K\u00e9sely<\/strong> (2:00.69) with Hosszu – returning after her 400IM morning victory – fourth through in 2:00.75.<\/p>\n
Bohus – the Hungarian record-holder – went third in the 2021 50 back rankings in 25.05 behind only Junya Koga<\/strong> (24.96) and Apostolos Christou<\/strong> (25.04).<\/p>\n
Katalin Burian<\/strong> – winner of the 100 and 200 back – led the women’s field in 28.67.<\/p>\n
Csaba Szil\u00e1gyi<\/strong> touched in 27.68 in the 50br.<\/p>\n
BVSC<\/strong> headed the men’s 4×100 medley relay in 3:46.22 while Egri \u00dasz\u00f3 Klub<\/strong> led the way in the women’s race in 4:17.21.<\/p>\n
