The 2021 NCAA Division I Men\u2019s Swimming and Diving Championship continued Friday with preliminaries on Day 3 of the meet.<\/p>\n

The events scheduled are the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.<\/p>\n

Cal has the lead heading into the day, but a late surge from Texas on Thursday night has the meet extremely close with every swim counting for both teams.<\/p>\n

NCAA Championships : 100 Butterfly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Florida\u2019s Caeleb Dressel holds the record in the 100 butterfly at 42.80, the only man to go sub-43. Texas\u2019 Joseph Schooling is the second-fastest performer in history at 43.75, followed by Cal\u2019s Tom Shields (43.84). … Stanford holds the title record with nine, followed by Indiana and Texas with seven each. \u2026 Mark Spitz, Ian Crocker and Pablo Morales each swept the title in four years, while Lars Frolander, Anthony Nesty and Shields won the even three times. \u2026 Indiana\u2019s Vini Lanza won the 2019 title after back-to-back Dressel titles.<\/em><\/p>\n

Cal\u2019s Ryan Hoffer<\/strong> continued his strong meet, breaking the pool record in the 100 butterfly to take the top seed in 44.24.<\/p>\n

Virginia Tech junior Antani Ivanov<\/strong> has the second seed in 44.54, followed by Georgia\u2019s Camden Murphy<\/strong> (44.69) and Louisville senior Nicholas Albiero<\/strong> (44.82).<\/p>\n

Texas senior Alvin Jiang<\/strong> took the fifth seed in 44.85, followed by Florida sophomore Eric Friese<\/strong> (44.98), Missouri junior Danny Kovac<\/strong> (45.00) and Georgia freshman Luca Urlando<\/strong> (45.10).<\/p>\n

Virginia Tech\u2019s Youssef Ramadan<\/strong> looked poised to make the top eight but was disqualified for a false start.<\/p>\n

Hoffer will look to win his second NCAA title of the meet after winning the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday.<\/p>\n
