If eyes had been on Nemeth and his rattling of the Hungarian 100fr record on Thursday evening, Peter Bernek<\/strong> also commanded attention with a 4:12.60 heat in the 400IM ahead of three-time European champion David Verraszt\u00f3<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He led at halfway but a breaststroke leg of 69.87 propelled Verraszto to the head of the field, almost two seconds ahead of Bernek, his closest challenger.<\/p>\n

Bernek made some inroads on the freestyle but it was Verraszto, the two-time world silver medallist, who claimed the title in 4:13.57.<\/p>\n
Bernek was second in 4:14.70 with Daniel Sos<\/strong> taking third in 4:16.91.<\/p>\n

Verraszto was a man of few words after the race, saying: “The breaststroke part was quite good” while Bernek was animated, saying:<\/p>\n
\u201cBy far this is my best morning time.\u00a0It was great, I enjoyed it!<\/p>\n
“I think that was the maximum I could get out of this morning swim, but the point is that I finally managed to swim to an individual peak yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n
“It’sunusual to have the afternoon preliminaries and morning finals so at the Olympics you will have to give 150 per cent to get to the finals.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> completed the IM double by adding the longer medley to the 200 in 4:42.35 with Vikt\u00f3ri Mih\u00e1lyv\u00e1ri-Farkas<\/strong> second in 4:48.93.<\/p>\n
Hosszu also came fourth in the 200 back and the Olympic champion said:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was technically better to feel than the 200.<\/p>\n
“I don\u2019t know yet what form the 200 back will be in the future. This is my second race this year, if we look at it that way, we are very early.<\/p>\n
“There will be more competitions in Stockholm and Helsinki before the European Championships, and hopefully there will be another bunch such as in Rome before the Olympics.<\/p>\n
“The goal with this meet was to get used to racing. Fortunately, I am starting to feel better and better both mentally and technically.\u00a0That seems good now, that’s where the work needs to done!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Back To The Future For Burian<\/h3>\n

Katalin Burian<\/strong> won the women’s 200 back in 2:08.81, the morning after going third in the rankings with a heat swim of 2:08.20.<\/p>\n
Burian, who had already booked her ticket to Tokyo in the 100m and she split 30.80\/1:03.29\/1:36.23 before extending her lead in the final 50 ahead of\u00a0Eszter Szab\u00f3-Felt\u00f3thy<\/strong> who clocked 2:10.03.<\/p>\n
She said:<\/p>\n
“Now I am very relieved to finally get to the Olympics.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s like I\u2019m breathing now, like that heavy stone has rolled off my chest now!<\/p>\n
“That 200 back went really well, though, I didn\u2019t get into that so much, the point was to win.<\/p>\n
“I was very disappointed with yesterday\u2019s swimming, then I swam with other tactics.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, I died a lot in the last 20 metres yesterday, but I started much better, 0.7 better than in the European Championships (2018), and even up to 150 I had a very strong split.<\/p>\n
“I really messed up the touch, which is why I still berate myself. Because of this, I could barely sleep.<\/p>\n
“The point of today was to win and of course try to enjoy the swimming a bit.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Adam Telegdy<\/strong> won the men’s race in 1:57.90 following a Thursday night heat swim of 1:57.30.<\/p>\n
David Horvath<\/strong> won the 200br in 2:13.05 with Eszter\u00a0B\u00e9k\u00e9si<\/strong> taking the women’s title in 2:28.19.<\/p>\n
In the relays, Cseh swam a 52.30 butterfly leg as BVSC won the mixed medley relay in 3:57.93,\u00a0Gy\u0151ri \u00dasz\u00f3 Sportegy<\/strong> won the women’s 4x1oo free in 3:47.99 and BVSC took the men’s title in 3:20.54.<\/p>\n
