{"id":466595,"date":"2021-03-25T07:15:41","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T14:15:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=466595"},"modified":"2021-03-25T07:15:41","modified_gmt":"2021-03-25T14:15:41","slug":"isl-international-swimming-league-prepares-for-third-season-in-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/isl-international-swimming-league-prepares-for-third-season-in-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"ISL: International Swimming League Prepares For Third Season in 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">The International Swimming League (ISL) has begun planning for its third season in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>ISL Season 3 is planned to take place over the course of three phases.\u00a0Starting from the end of August, the first phase, also known as the Regular Season, will see the 10 ISL Clubs competing during approximately 6 weeks, in a setting similar to that of the ISL Season 2\u2019s bubble in Budapest.\u00a0This will be followed by a Play-off phase of three weeks in November, which will bring together the top eight ISL Clubs that will compete for a spot in the ISL Final.\u00a0The ISL Grand Finale is set to take place at the end of December, when the ISL 2021 Champions will be crowned.<\/p>\n<p>The ISL is currently conducting its host cities selection process for the third season, with talks taking place with cities in Asia, Europe and North America.<\/p>\n<p>Founder <strong>Konstantin Grigorishin<\/strong> said, \u2018\u2019We proved to the sporting world with Season 2020 that the International Swimming League is a fantastic \u2018sportainment\u2019 product.\u00a0\u00a0Our athletes, coaches and General Managers put on a spectacular show in Budapest.\u00a0The world-class performances, amplified by a production unsurpassed in the world of swimming, made the sporting world sit up and take notice.\u00a0The ISL is here to stay.\u00a0\u00a0Now is the time to build on our momentum with a spectacular Season 3.\u00a0We will continue to innovate, using our experience in Budapest and the feedback from our swimmers.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/international-swimming-league\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">More International Swimming League news<\/a><\/p>\n<p><u>ISL Season 3 Schedule (subject to change)<\/u><br \/>\nRegular Season (approximately 6 weeks)<br \/>\nDates: from end of August to end of September<br \/>\nLocation: TBC<br \/>\nTeams\/Matches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>10 teams<\/li>\n<li>10 matches (4 matches per team)<\/li>\n<li>Top 6 teams automatically selected for Play-offs<\/li>\n<li>Bottom 4 teams compete in an 11<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0match, for 2 remaining spots in Play-offs<\/li>\n<li>Total of 8 ISL teams advance to Play-offs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Play-offs (approximately 3 weeks)<\/strong><br \/>\nDates: November<br \/>\nLocation: TBC<br \/>\nTeams\/Matches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8 teams<\/li>\n<li>6 matches (3 matches per team)<\/li>\n<li>Top 4 ISL teams advance to the Final<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Grand Finale<\/strong><br \/>\nDates: December<br \/>\nLocation TBC<\/p>\n<p>The ISL 10 Clubs that competed in Season 2 will return for Season 3: the European-based Aqua Centurions, Energy Standard (ISL Season 1 (2019) Champions), Iron and London Roar, will be joined by their North American counterparts, the Cali Condors (ISL Season 2 (2020) Champions), DC Trident, LA Current, NY Breakers and Toronto Titans, as well as by the Japan-based Tokyo Frog Kings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jason Lezak, Kaitlin Sandeno, Lenny Krayzelburg<\/strong> and <strong>Tina Andrew<\/strong> return as General Managers for, respectively, the Cali Condors, DC Trident, LA Current and NY Breakers, while <strong>Rob Kent<\/strong> remains at the helm of Toronto Titans.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Dorina<\/strong> <strong>Szekeres<\/strong> will continue to lead Iron, while<strong> Rob Woodhouse<\/strong> and <strong>Kosuke Kitajima<\/strong> will head London Roar and Tokyo Frog Kings, respectively.\u00a0<strong>James Gibson<\/strong> is stepping into the role of GM at Energy Standard, while Aqua Centurions are on the lookout for a new General Manager.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;We believe we have a moral and financial obligation to our athletes, and the ISL will continue to support them\u00a0during these incredibly challenging times for elite sport,&#8221;
