It was a historic year all around, as NC State finished in its highest place ever in second, as this is the first time the Atlantic Coast Conference has had a team in the top two.<\/p>\n<p>Texas was third for its first top four finish since 2001. Cal was fourth overall for its 12th straight top four finish. Alabama was fifth for its highest finish since 1983.<\/p>\n<h3>#2: Swimming Australia Withdraws From World Juniors &amp; World University Games<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_391868\" style=\"width: Universiade Games in Chengdu (CHN) \u2013 siting \u201chealth and safety concerns\u2026. based on the effects of COVID-19 and the ongoing concerns regarding international travel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swimming Australia Chief Strategist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/alex-baumann-crowned-king-of-the-individual-medley-30-years-ago-today-at-olympics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Alex Baumann<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0made the announcement today saying a thorough process had been undertaken to consider all associated risks with travelling to the events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe worked very closely with our Chief Medical Officer\u00a0<strong>Dr Peter Fricker<\/strong>\u00a0to consider all risks, including the health and wellbeing of our athletes, coaches and staff, current government advice on international travel and parental concerns given the age of the athletes involved,\u201d Baumann said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven all those factors it was decided it was neither viable nor safe to World<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been quite a run for <strong>Torri Huske<\/strong> over the past few weeks. First, the Stanford recruit and Olympic hopeful took down the national high school record in the 100-yard butterfly. On Thursday night, while racing at the Potomac Valley Championship Series, Huske lowered her own National Age Group record in the 100 fly when she touched the wall in 49.70. That effort bettered the 49.75 Huske posted for her scholastic mark.<\/p>\n<p>Huske was out in 22.80 and came home in 26.90 for her record performance, which gave Huske a win of more than three seconds. She also checked in with a winning time of 21.39 in the 50 freestyle. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kate-douglass-continues-virginias-momentum-with-narrow-win-over-macneil-in-50-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">That effort would have placed third at Thursday night&#8217;s NCAA Championships<\/a>, where Virginia&#8217;s <strong>Kate Douglass<\/strong> won in 21.13, followed by Michigan&#8217;s <strong>Maggie Italico<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Rome<\/strong>\u00a0from 6-11 July, governing body\u00a0<strong>LEN<\/strong>\u00a0has announced.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>European Junior Diving Championships<\/strong>\u00a0will be staged in\u00a0<strong>Rijeka, Croatia<\/strong>, from 22 to 27 June.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s European junior swimming competition was due to be held in\u00a0<strong>Aberdeen, Scotland<\/strong>, with the\u00a0<strong>Royal Commonwealth Pool<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Edinburgh<\/strong>\u00a0staging the diving but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/european-junior-swimming-and-diving-championships-are-postponed\/\">they were postponed in April in the light of Covid-19.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In May\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/european-governing-body-len-cancel-all-2020-european-junior-events-because-of-pandemic\/\">LEN announced it had cancelled all junior events<\/a>\u00a0in 2020.<\/p>\n<p><strong>British Swimming<\/strong>\u00a0welcomed the news while adding: \u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">We will be considering our plans for this meet in due course, in conjunction with Government guidance, but for swimming we will not be using the British Swimming Selection Trials to select a Tour\u00a0<\/strong>concluded\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Marseille.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveffn.com\/cgi-bin\/resultats.php?competition=69623&amp;langue=fra\">Link to results<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Olympic champion Blume went second in the early-season rankings behind\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong>\u00a0and her 24.07 blast in February.<\/p>\n<p>A battle unfolded behind the Dane with\u00a0<strong>Femke Heemskerk<\/strong>\u00a0edging\u00a0<strong>Melanie Henique<\/strong>\u00a0by 0.01, touching in 24.72 to 24.73 with the Frenchwoman on her way to Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marie Wattel<\/strong>, who had won the 100fr in a speedy 53.32, was fourth in 24.93 before going on to win the 100 fly.<\/p>\n<h3>Marchand To Continue Fine Family Tradition<\/h3>\n<p>His father,\u00a0<strong>Xavier Marchand<\/strong>, represented France at the 1996 Games in Atlanta and four years later in Sydney in a career that brought world and European 200IM medals and mother,\u00a0<strong>Celine Bonnet<\/strong>, competed at Barcelona in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>The 18-year-old booked his place for Tokyo in the 200IM on Friday before lowering his own national 400IM record to 4:14.97 although his focus was on how he could eradicate \u201ca few small mistakes\u201d in order to further reduce his time.<\/p>\n<p>A 1:57.66 blast in the 200 fly prelims on Sunday hinted at more to come and he lowered that to 1:56.33 \u2013 good enough for fifth in the rankings, between seasoned international competitors\u00a0<strong>Daiya
