{"id":465974,"date":"2021-03-20T09:43:43","date_gmt":"2021-03-20T16:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=465974"},"modified":"2021-03-20T09:43:43","modified_gmt":"2021-03-20T16:43:43","slug":"swimming-south-africa-national-open-water-championships-catherine-van-rensburg-connor-albertyn-win-7-5k","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimming-south-africa-national-open-water-championships-catherine-van-rensburg-connor-albertyn-win-7-5k\/","title":{"rendered":"Swimming South Africa National Open Water Championships: Catherine van Rensburg, Connor Albertyn win 7.5K"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Swimming South Africa\u2019s Open Water swimmers continued to shine during the second day of the Championships, taking place at the Marina Martinique in Jeffrey\u2019s Bay.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s competition also doubles as the official trials for the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships and the top two athletes in the 5, 7.5 and 10km events from the relevant age groups (14-15, 16-17 and 18-19) will be considered for selection.<\/p>\n<p>Tshwane\u2019s <strong>Connor Albertyn<\/strong> and KZN\u2019s <strong>Leshen Pillay<\/strong> celebrated their well deserved gold and silver medals in the 16-17 age group 7.5km race, clocking 1:31:09.48 and 1:33:18.16, respectively, while the bronze medal was claimed by <strong>Patrick<\/strong> <strong>Hepke<\/strong> in 1:34:00.88.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Catherine van Rensburg<\/strong> (Tshwane), who won the silver medal during the 2020 competition, went one better to top the medal podium in today\u2019s 16-17 7.5km race with a time of 1:35:15.55, ahead of KZN\u2019s <strong>Mykae Forrest<\/strong> in 1:35:53.13 and Johannesburg\u2019s<strong> Leigh McMorran<\/strong> in 1:37:18.38.<\/p>\n<p>In the ladies\u2019 3km events, 13-14 age group medals were won by<strong> Bailey Forrest<\/strong> (39:22.80), <strong>Rebecca Fury<\/strong> (40:43.55) and <strong>Kiara Croft<\/strong> (40:45.23), the 15-16 medal podium was made up of <strong>Emma Carmody<\/strong> (38:35.70), <strong>Callan Lotter<\/strong> (39:00.93) and <strong>Teegan Pio<\/strong> (39:31.74), while the winners in the 17-18 category were <strong>Tatum Botha<\/strong> in 38:50.93, <strong>Paige Nicholson<\/strong> in 40:50.29 and <strong>Nelzaan Strydom<\/strong> in 41:06.05.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kaitlyn Albertyn, Courtney de Villier<\/strong>s and <strong>Rachael Humphries<\/strong> claimed the gold, silver and bronze in the 19-29 age group race in 39:17.95, 41:52.81 and 42:58.17, respectively, while the winning trio in the 41-51 category were <strong>Carina<\/strong> <strong>Hambloch<\/strong> (44:13.14),<strong> Anneke Boshoff<\/strong> (47:29.13) and <strong>Mandy Koegelenberg<\/strong> (47:33.19).<\/p>\n<p>The gold and silver in the 3km Over 51 age group were scooped by <strong>Ingrid Trusler<\/strong> in 45:43.29 and<strong> Denise Bosman<\/strong> in 45:50.49.<\/p>\n<p>The 4 x 1.25km mixed relay title went to Tshwane\u2019s Van Rensburg, <strong>Henre Louw<\/strong>, Lotter and Reino van Wielligh in 1:00:23.25, followed by KZN\u2019s <strong>Brendan Visser, Teague White, Tory Earle<\/strong> and <strong>Carli Antonopoulos<\/strong> in 1:01:51.11 and the Eastern Cape\u2019s<strong> Bryce Minderon, Ares Sakelliou<\/strong>, Pio and <strong>Kaitlynne Horne<\/strong> in 1:03:20.71.<\/p>\n<p>For live streaming of the Swimming South Africa event, please follow @SANATOWS2021 on Facebook and for full results, please visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zsports.co.za\/saows-champs\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.zsports.co.za\/saows-champs&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1616342923451000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHKqWE9aXJEtPnOPgqbQv-NWmZsDQ\">www.zsports.co.za\/saows-champs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Swimming South Africa National Open Water Swimming Championships conclude tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday, 21<sup>st<\/sup> March 2021:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>09h00 \u2013 5km Men<\/p>\n<p>09h00 \u2013 5km Men Multi Disability<\/p>\n<p>11h00 \u2013 5km Women<\/p>\n<p>11h00 \u2013 5km Women Multi Disability<\/p>\n<p><i>\u2014 The above press release was posted by Swimming World in conjunction with Swimming South Africa<\/i><i>.
