Relays are all timed finals and will take place during the finals sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia leads the meet after winning the 800 free relay on opening night.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/watch\/player\/_\/id\/55c111e9-9709-422b-84f5-7b469892b380\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Live Stream<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/swimmeetresults.tech\/NCAA-Division-I-Women-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2021-ncaa-division-i-womens-swimming-diving-championships-virginia-wins-first-ncaa-relay-title-in-school-history-in-800-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Day 2 recap<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>500 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The NCAA record in the event is 4:24.06, set by Stanford&#8217;s <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> in 2017. The pseudo-defending champion is Stanford&#8217;s <strong>Brooke Forde<\/strong>, who won in 2019 in 4:31.34, the 10th time Stanford has won the event. Forde&#8217;s time was fifth-fastest in history behind Ledecky, <strong>Leah Smith<\/strong> (4:28.90, 2017), <strong>Katie Hoff<\/strong> (4:30.47, 2007) and <strong>Dagny Knutson<\/strong> (4:31.18, 2009).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Michigan&#8217;s <strong>Sierra Schmidt<\/strong> got the day started with a fast swim in the first heat, touching the wall in 4:40. It was more than five seconds ahead of the rest of her heat and all of heat two \u2014 and faster than anyone in heat three or four.<\/p>\n<p>Texas senior <strong>Evie Pfiefer<\/strong> was the first swimmer able to set a faster pace then Schmidt.
