Photo Courtesy: Delly Carr (Swimming Australia).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In the women\u2019s race it was Edwards\u2019 TSS Aquatic team mate <strong>Moesha Johnson<\/strong> who like the men\u2019s podium also backed up from yesterday\u2019s 10k to steal the 5km and ignite an open water career for the 1500m pool specialist.<\/p>\n<p>With 10k victor and Tokyo-bound <strong>Kareena Lee<\/strong> watching on, after earning a rest after yesterday\u2019s impressive win. Johnson unleashed on her opponents early to claim a lead which she never looked like losing.<\/p>\n<p>She led all the way to win in 59 minutes and 07.44 seconds to beat out teammate and yesterday\u2019s 10km silver medallist <strong>Bianca Crisp <\/strong>in 1:01:15.96 and exciting junior <strong>Jessica Mouatt<\/strong> from Nudgee College who clocked 1:01:16.41 for third.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the first turn I was out the front and thought I\u2019d see how the next straight went and if I could break away from the girls. If not, I\u2019d just practice my pack swimming and by the second buoy I had a bit of a lead, so I just started building the race from there,\u201d Johnson said post- race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was way easier than yesterday, I did the 10km and that was a lot more of a grind, but today I kind of just cruised through the first two laps and then built from there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson will now put her efforts back into the 800m and 1500m freestyle for June\u2019s Olympic Trials but admitted that come the next World Championships, she could well be \u201cin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m exploring (my options) at the moment&#8230;..my main event is the 1500m but if I get the opportunity to make it to Worlds and swim against the world\u2019s best then I\u2019ll take it,\u201d said Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile Belgravia teammates and Paralympic pool gold medallists, , <strong>Brenden Hall<\/strong> and <strong>Lakeisha Patterson<\/strong> won their respective Australian Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s 5km Open Multi-Class titles.<\/p>\n<p>Hall posted a time of 1:00:29.36 to beat out Tuggeranong Vikings\u00a0Swim Club&#8217;s <strong>J<\/strong><strong>oshua Alford<\/strong> (1:04:57.87) and Melbourne Vicentre\u2019s <strong>Ben Morrison<\/strong> (1:09:16.81).<\/p>\n<p>A frantic finish to the Girls 14-year 5km race \u2013Warringah Aquatics NSW\u2019s <strong>Zara Kasprowicz<\/strong> (1:06:34.41 )out-touch Revesby Workers NSW\u2019s <strong>Rafaela Kopellou<\/strong> (1:06:34.55.) by just 0.14secs in the closest finish of the weekend with Goodlife\u2019s Daisy Quinn (1:06:55.75) third.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Samuel Thorpe<\/strong> (St Peters Western, QLD) and <strong>Samuel Higgs<\/strong> (Warringah Aquatic, NSW) went head-to-head as they battled it out for gold and silver in the Boys 15-year 5km race.<\/p>\n<p>Thorpe managed to get the upper hand at the finish line to edge out Higgs for the Australian title \u2013 1:02:08.80 to 1:02:10.98. Higgs\u2019 Warringah Aquatic teammate <strong>Alexander Smith<\/strong> rounded out the podium, scoring bronze in 1:03:16.13.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thomas Raymond<\/strong> (Nudgee College, QLD) backed up his performance after competing in the 7.5km event on Saturday to prevail in the Boys 18-year 5km event. Recording a time of 56:44:00, Raymond held off <strong>Ruben Rees<\/strong> (Miami, QLD) 57:23.73 and Noosa QLD\u2019s <strong>Kilian Carrel<\/strong> (59:52.41).<\/p>\n<p>While <strong>Finella Gibbs-Beal<\/strong> (Noosa, QLD) added to her medal tally on Sunday, taking home the Girls 17-year 5km event in 1:01:19.78. <strong>Jacqueline Davison-McGovern <\/strong>(Yeronga Park, QLD) snared
