Photo Courtesy Delly Carr (Swimming Australia).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Lee said this event will likely be the only 10km contest she\u2019ll race before the Tokyo Olympics, so she wanted to make the most of the experience.\u201cI knew that the girls would make it quite a tough race, but my goal was to go out there and try and stay in the pack a little bit more because that\u2019s what I need to practise going into Tokyo,\u201d Lee said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still felt it was a pretty fast race so I didn\u2019t have to hold myself back too much but I did have enough in the end to sprint, so I was happy I was able to do that in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next Stop World Juniors In Seyshells For Top Juniors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile<\/strong> WA\u2019s Kyle Lee (North Coast) showed why he is a talent to watch &#8211; w2ith his fifth place finish in the opens and winning the Boys 19-year 10km category with a time of 1:56:23.65 to put himself in the box seat for selection on the Australian Team for this year&#8217;s Fina World Junior Championships in the Seyshells. Lee to beat out Hong Kong\u2019s <strong>William Thorley<\/strong> (1:57:22.85) and NSW\u2019s <strong>Nicholas Middleton<\/strong> (Revesby Workers) (1:59:47.82). As Thorley is classified as a visitor, Middleton received silver as the second fastest Australian, while NSW\u2019s <strong>Logan Kaye <\/strong>(Manly) jumped up to receive the bronze in 2:00:35.31.<\/p>\n<p>In the Boys 18-year 10km WA\u2019s <strong>Max Coten (<\/strong>Westside Christ Church Aquatic) claimed gold in 2:00:33.79 ahead of NSW\u2019s <strong>Harvey Lanigan<\/strong> (Ringwood) who clocked 2:08:41.57, and NSW\u2019s <strong>Jake Andrews<\/strong> (Randwick City) who touched in 2:09:16.30.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s age events, QLD\u2019s <strong>Chloe Gubecka<\/strong> (Yeronga Park) posted a time of 2:12:25.58 to take home the Australian title for the Girls 19-year 10km race.<\/p>\n<p>NSW\u2019s <strong>Hannah Higgins<\/strong> (Revesby Workers) snared silver in 2:26:15.38 while WA\u2019s Fiona Cullinane (Rockingham) completed the podium with bronze in 2:28:24.50.<\/p>\n<p>NSW\u2019s <strong>Taylah Ozdemir (<\/strong>Aquabliss Swim Club) took out the Girls 18-year 10km event in 2:24:52.41 ahead of NSW\u2019s <strong>Chelsea Harkins<\/strong> (2:29:51.66) (Loreto Normanhurts) and <strong>Olivia Towle<\/strong> <strong>(<\/strong>Aquabliss Swim Club) in 2:34:57.78 who received silver and bronze medals respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The Boys 16-year 7.5km Championship saw Revesby Workers\u2019 (NSW) teammates <strong>Charlie Gray<\/strong> (1:35:52.38) and <strong>Kai Robertson<\/strong> (1:36:53.13) went head-to-head to take out the top two spots. QLD\u2019s <strong>Dylan Thompson<\/strong> (Cotton Tree) rounded out the medals taking home bronze in 1:38:05.64.<\/p>\n<p>In the Boys 17-year 7.5km St Peters Western\u2019s <strong>Robert Thorpe<\/strong> who came out on top in 1:28:09.65 ahead of Knox Pymble\u2019s <strong>Euan Liney<\/strong> (1:35:00.73) and Bunbury\u2019s <strong>Kaiden Richings<\/strong> (1:35:26.66). Auburn\u2019s <strong>Bianca Walton<\/strong> secured silver in 1:36:25.20 while Warringah Aquatic\u2019s <strong>Kimberley Dolye<\/strong> received bronze in 1:42:18.33.Revesby Workers\u2019 <strong>Abbey Connor<\/strong> showed her talent in the Girls 16-year 7.5km event, taking out the Australian title in 1:40:49.59 ahead of TSS Aquatic\u2019s <strong>Caitlin Allred<\/strong> (1:47.40.98) and Hunter\u2019s <strong>Heidi Schneider<\/strong> (1:53:07.78). With <strong>Allred<\/strong> (NZ) classified as a visitor, Schneider claimed the silver medal as the second fastest Australian and <strong>Caitlin Parkinson<\/strong> (2:02:42.22) from Revesby Workers received bronze as the third fastest Australian.<\/p>\n<p>As the fastest finishers in their age group for the Boys and Girls 19-20 year 10km race Cotter, Lee, Jessica Mouatt and Kara Svenson are eligible to be selected on the World Junior Open Water Championships team.
