It brings the WOA\u2019s executive committee to 20 members and strengthens the organization\u2019s commitment to gender diversity. The two appointees mean that, <a href=\"https:\/\/olympians.org\/news\/1528\/woa-appoints-2-new-exco-members\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">per the WOA release<\/a>, the executive committee has \u201can equal number of male and female representatives from all five continents\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Evans won four Olympic gold medals as one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/league-of-olympic-swim-legends-katie-ledecky-janet-evans-top-800-podium-with-adlington-meyer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">world\u2019s most outstanding distance swimmers<\/a>, with world and national records <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/league-of-olympic-swim-legends-janet-evans-tops-400-free-podium-with-norelius-meyer-ledecky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that endured for years<\/a>. She competed at the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics and qualified for Olympic Trials as recently as 2012. Evans is the Chief Athlete Officer of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic committee. She helped secure the Games as the Vice Chair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/janet-evans-named-vice-chair-director-of-athlete-relations-for-los-angeles-2024-olympic-bid-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LA\u2019s bid committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m delighted to be joining WOA\u2019s EXCO and to open up more opportunities for Olympians across the world,\u201d Evans said in a WOA release. \u201cI hope to use my experiences as a sports administrator to help my fellow Olympians make a positive impact in their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAppointing Chantal and Janet to WOA\u2019s EXCO will strengthen our organization as both bring considerable expertise and are highly respected within the Olympic Movement,\u201d said WOA president <strong>Joel Bouzou.<\/strong> \u201cAs Olympians and as sports administrators, Chantal and Janet share WOA\u2019s values and I know they will further our cause of supporting Olympians at every stage of their lives.
