This swim is the fastest high school 50 free in history (public or independent schools) topping Aiden Hayes 19.20 set on 2\/25\/21 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SjPa0B23D0\">pic.twitter.com\/SjPa0B23D0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Brandon Hullings (@HullingsNFL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HullingsNFL\/status\/1368301896948146180?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 6, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the week, he&#8217;d clocked in at 19.26 seconds in the 50 to lower his National Independent School record in the event. The Pennsylvania native who swims at the Pennington School in New Jersey, set the mark last February at 19.42 seconds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/david-curtiss-goes-19-42-sets-national-prep-record-in-50-free-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">at the Eastern Interscholastic Championships<\/a>. That was trimmed by almost two tenths in a meet against Wilberforce School <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/highschoolsports\/2021\/03\/times-of-trenton-swimming-notebook-penningtons-curtiss-turns-in-fast-50-free-princeton-off-to-strong-start.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on Wednesday<\/a> and then to 19.11 on Saturday at the start of a 200 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday&#8217;s swim was the fastest in high school history, undercutting the time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/aiden-hayes-sets-pair-of-national-high-school-records-at-oklahoma-champs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">set last month<\/a> by <strong>Aiden Hayes<\/strong> at 19.20 seconds. The Oklahoma native will be Curtiss\u2019s teammate next year at NC State. Virginia freshman <strong>Matt Brownstead<\/strong> also went 19.24 in high school last year.<\/p>\n<p>Curtiss\u2019 growth puts him in the picture for Olympic Trials this summer, in the 50 free in particular. He cracked 22 seconds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sub-22-david-curtiss-catie-deloof-to-win-tyr-pro-swim-series-50-frees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in the 50 free long-course<\/a> at the TYR Pro Swim Series in January and has made sub-20-second 50s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/n-c-state-recruit-david-curtiss-clocks-sub-20-50-freestyle-in-high-school-dual-meet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in high school dual meets seem routine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Great way to end a Saturday, 19.11 in the 50.
