Sarah Sjostrom Checks in With Brett Hawke on Elbow Recovery & Relives Rio Gold<\/strong><\/p>\n

Olympic gold medalist\u00a0Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>checked in with\u00a0Brett Hawke\u00a0<\/strong>on his podcast, Inside With Brett Hawke, about her recent elbow injury<\/a> that was required after she slipped on ice at her home in Sweden. It will take three months for Sjostrom to recover. With 144 days until the Olympic Games, Sjostrom has a limited time to get back into training to try and repeat her 100 fly gold medal in Tokyo. Sjostrom detailed what her recovery plan will look like as she is staying as positive as possible and what she will be doing in and out of the pool during her recovery.<\/p>\n

Sjostrom has been on the world scene since winning the European title in 2008 and she talked about what it is like to be an inspiration for younger swimmers (13:30) and the ups and downs she has experienced in her career. She went over the pressure she put on herself leading into 2016 (15:00) where she broke her own world record and won the gold in the 100 butterfly. Sjostrom won Sweden’s first individual gold medal in women’s swimming with that swim and she went over the work she did with her sports psychologist in the lead-up to the Games and how she was able to get the best performance out of herself (21:00).<\/p>\n

Sarah Sjostrom and Hawke went over her 100 butterfly race strategy (24:00) and her stroke count that she tries to hit during the race, as well as what she tries to hit on her splits.<\/p>\n

Sjostrom talked about how she has been strong in the 50 and 200 freestyle, despite being two completely different events that require different types of training (33:00) as well as how she became the first woman to break 52 seconds<\/a> in the 100 free.<\/p>\n

Sarah Sjostrom has already qualified for Tokyo as this will be her fourth trip to the Games, and will look to add on to her three medals from Rio where she won gold in the 100 fly, silver in the 200 free, and bronze in the 100 freestyle. No woman has yet to win back to back Olympic golds in the 100 butterfly<\/a> and Sjostrom has a chance at that history.<\/p>\n
