{"id":463505,"date":"2021-02-27T11:07:07","date_gmt":"2021-02-27T18:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=463505"},"modified":"2021-02-27T11:07:07","modified_gmt":"2021-02-27T18:07:07","slug":"2021-big-12-swimming-diving-championships-day-four-heats-texas-men-on-cruise-control","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2021-big-12-swimming-diving-championships-day-four-heats-texas-men-on-cruise-control\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 Big 12 Swimming &#038; Diving Championships Day Four Heats: Texas Men on Cruise Control"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The last day of the 2021 Big 12 swimming and diving championships continued Saturday in Austin, Texas with the heats of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly as the men and women competed in separate sessions for social distancing purposes.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/sidearmstats.com\/texas\/swim\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/watch\/schedule\/_\/type\/upcoming\/categoryId\/904ff2f3-3ce3-3b9e-bca9-3608ec5f616b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Live Stream<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Kansas women showed out well on Saturday with two top seeds in the 200 back and 200 breast as\u00a0<strong>Dewi Blose\u00a0<\/strong>is on top of the 200 back field at 1:57.66 ahead of TCU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kaeleigh Rice\u00a0<\/strong>(1:58.24) and Kansas&#8217; <strong>Lauryn Parrish\u00a0<\/strong>(1:58.56). This race should go any different direction as Texas&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Sydney Silver<\/strong>, the top seed coming into the meet, is fifth at 1:59.42, while second seed\u00a0<strong>Manon Manning\u00a0<\/strong>of Kansas is fourth at 1:59.36.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Jayhawk\u00a0<strong>Kate Steward<\/strong> is the top seed in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:11.50 ahead of Texas freshman\u00a0<strong>Anna Elendt\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.63), who came in to the day with a 2:06 seed time. Elendt is one of the top breaststrokers in the nation as the Germany native should be in for a big swim three weeks out from NCAAs in Greensboro. She has been the breaststroker that Texas has been looking for on its medley relays.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Texas freshman\u00a0<strong>Olivia Bray\u00a0<\/strong>is the top seed in the 200 butterfly with a comfortable 1:54.78 as she was a 1:52 already this season. She is ahead of\u00a0<strong>Emma Sticklen\u00a0<\/strong>(1:55.64) and sophomore\u00a0<strong>Kelly Pash\u00a0<\/strong>(1:58.75), who was the Big 12 champ last year.<\/p>\n<p>Texas junior\u00a0<strong>Julia Cook\u00a0<\/strong>is the top seed in the 100 freestyle at 49.41 ahead of\u00a0<strong>Bridget Semenuk\u00a0<\/strong>(49.45) and\u00a0<strong>Miranda Heckman\u00a0<\/strong>(49.59).<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s session,\u00a0<strong>Peter Larson\u00a0<\/strong>had a big swim in the 200 back heats with a 1:41.14 as he is ahead of freshman\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/carson-foster-adjusting-well-to-new-normal-as-a-college-freshman-in-global-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carson Foster<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(1:43.13) and 2018 national champ\u00a0<strong>Austin Katz\u00a0<\/strong>(1:45.14).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chris Staka\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Daniel Krueger\u00a0<\/strong>should vie for the win in the 100 freestyle at the Big 12 swimming and diving championships as Staka will have lane four for the final after a 42.36 in prelims to Krueger&#8217;s 42.54.\u00a0<strong>Drew Kibler<\/strong>, who is fourth seed at 43.19, should also factor into the race as this looks like a tryout for who gets on the 400 free relay at nationals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caspar Corbeau\u00a0<\/strong>split under 30 seconds for each of his 50s in the 200 breaststroke with a 1:54.76 to grab top seed ahead of fellow sophomore\u00a0<strong>Jake Foster\u00a0<\/strong>(1:55.93) and junior\u00a0<strong>Charlie Scheinfeld\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.25).
