Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> and Valerie van Roon<\/strong> will go head to head at the Eindhoven Qualification Meet<\/strong> in April to resolve who will claim the second 50m freestyle berth for the Tokyo Olympics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The issue arose when Heemskerk was forced to miss the Rotterdam Qualification Meet<\/strong> in December after her partner tested positive for Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Heemskerk, who won gold as part of the Netherlands’ 4×100 free relay quartet at Beijing 2008<\/strong>, had previously clocked 24.71 at the 2019 Swim Cup Amsterdam<\/strong> meaning she would take the second 50 free spot along with Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>as long as no-one went quicker.<\/p>\n

However, she was forced to look on as Van\u00a0Roon<\/strong> went inside 25 seconds for the first time in 24.63 in Rotterdam to claim the second spot and oust Heemskerk in the process.<\/a><\/p>\n

It prompted an emotional post from Van Roon on social media:<\/p>\n
