﻿{"id":462709,"date":"2021-02-20T16:14:05","date_gmt":"2021-02-20T23:14:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=462709"},"modified":"2021-02-20T20:21:53","modified_gmt":"2021-02-21T03:21:53","slug":"2021-sec-womens-championship-day-4-finals-live-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2021-sec-womens-championship-day-4-finals-live-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 SEC Women&#8217;s Championship Day 4: Kentucky Wins First SEC Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2021 SEC Women\u2019s Swimming and Diving Championship continued with Saturday\u2019s Day 4 finals and the meet capped in historic fashion.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky won its first ever SEC team championship with a combination of strong top-level point-scorers and depth that placed a multitude of swimmers in the finals.<\/p>\n<p>The Wildcats scored 1,124 points to hold off Florida (1,071), Georgia (999), Alabama (973) and defending champion Tennessee (934).<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky broke five school records and had 12 podium finishes, while the team lowered 39 personal-best times during the meet. The Wildcats had never finished higher than third, which they accomplished the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile some great individual swims happened, as Georgia&#8217;s <strong>Dakota Luther<\/strong> broke the SEC meet record in the 200 butterfly.<\/p>\n<p>Check out a breakdown of each event below:<\/p>\n<pre>   Women - Team Rankings - Through Event 21                     \r\n \r\n  1. title in the 200 backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>White won the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly on Friday, then followed it up with a 1:48.55 in the 200 backstroke to win in an \u201cA\u201d cut.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky went 2-3 as <strong>Sophie Sorenson<\/strong> touched the wall in 1:50.94, followed by teammate<strong> Caitlin Brooks<\/strong> (1:51.96).<\/p>\n<p>Alabama\u2019s <strong>Morgan Liberto<\/strong> was fourth (1:52.39), followed by Missouri\u2019s <strong>Meredith Rees<\/strong> (1:53.35), Tennessee senior <strong>Kaitlin Harty<\/strong> (1:53.89), Kentucky breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Hartman touched the wall in 2:05.05, an NCAA \u201cA\u201d cut that was half a second ahead of the field.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky sophomore <strong>Gillian Davey<\/strong> also reached an \u201cA\u201d cut at 2:05.59 to finish second.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia senior <strong>Danielle Della Torre<\/strong> took third in 2:06.96 to give the Bulldogs a 1-3 finish.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee freshman <strong>Mona McSharry<\/strong> was fourth (2:07.13), followed by Kentucky sophomore <strong>Lauren Poole<\/strong> (2:07.33), Florida junior <strong>Vanessa Pearl<\/strong> (2:07.85),
