{"id":462551,"date":"2021-02-19T15:36:28","date_gmt":"2021-02-19T22:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=462551"},"modified":"2021-02-19T15:36:28","modified_gmt":"2021-02-19T22:36:28","slug":"olympic-trials-qualifier-baylor-nelson-verbally-commits-to-texas-am-for-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympic-trials-qualifier-baylor-nelson-verbally-commits-to-texas-am-for-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Olympic Trials Qualifier Baylor Nelson Verbally Commits to Texas A&#038;M for 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>Olympic Trials qualifier and Huntersville, N.C. native\u00a0<strong>Baylor Nelson<\/strong>, one of the most sought-out recruits in the Class of 2026, has announced his college decision: Texas A&amp;M University.<\/p>\n<p>His older sister,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/six-time-north-carolina-state-champion-emme-nelson-sends-verbal-to-texas-am\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Emme Nelson<\/strong><\/a>, is currently a freshman breaststroker\/IMer in College Station.<\/p>\n<p>Along with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/texas-5a-record-holder-connor-foote-will-remain-in-state-with-2022-verbal-to-aggies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Connor Foote<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>of San Antonio, Texas, he is the second verbal pledge the Aggies have received for the fall of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding his commitment, he said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>\u201cI\u2019m humbled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Texas A&amp;M University! Big thanks to everyone who has helped me get to where I am today! #gig\u2019em<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"emoji\" role=\"img\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/13.0.0\/svg\/1f44d-1f3fb.svg\" alt=\"??\" \/>\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A versatile swimmer, Nelson does his club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina and earned seven best times at the NC 18&amp;U Winter Championships in December before going on to win the 200m back at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Richmond. Last March, he posted five top-8 finishes at Cary Sectionals and placed eighth in the 400 IM at Juniors East in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>In Summer 2019, Nelson had a strong showing at Greensboro Sectionals and finished fourth in the 200m IM at Junior Nationals. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American\u00a0won the 100 fly and 200 IM in 2019 and 2020 while taking second and first, respectively, in those events during his rookie campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Under head coach\u00a0<strong>Jay Holmes<\/strong>, Texas A&amp;M finished second in the team standings at the 2020 SEC Championships behind Florida.
