Walsh and Douglass sit #1 and 2 in the national rankings with four weeks to go until the NCAA championships in this same pool in Greensboro, and Virginia and NC State lead the national rankings in the 200 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>The Cavaliers also celebrated a win from\u00a0<strong>Paige Madden\u00a0<\/strong>in the 500 free for her second straight title in the event, while NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kylee Alons\u00a0<\/strong>won the 50 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Virginia&#8217;s top end dominance, NC State&#8217;s depth has kept them in the meet through two days of racing. Boston College      115<\/pre>\n<h3>500 Free<\/h3>\n<p>Virginia senior\u00a0<strong>Paige Madden\u00a0<\/strong>swam a solid 4:33.25 in winning the 500 freestyle to start off Thursday&#8217;s finals as she was just off her season best of 4:33.0 from earlier this season at the Tennessee Invite. Madden led from the outset, flipping at 1:47.93 at the 200, a second behind where she was in December. Madden is well in front of the rest of the country at the moment as she was the second seed heading into NCAAs last year before the meet was cancelled. She was second place at the 2019 NCAAs and will be looking to win the national title in her senior year.<\/p>\n<p>NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kate Moore\u00a0<\/strong>had a solid swim for second place with a 4:38.09 as she was also a 4:37 earlier this season and will remain fourth nationally with four weeks until NCAAs. The time is a big drop for Walsh this season was a 1:54 earlier this season and was also one of the top recruits in the class of 2020, establishing herself as an Olympic favorite in the 200 IM. Walsh used a strong breaststroke leg at 31.98 to pull even with Douglass on the third 50, and ultimately ran away from her on the final 50 with a 26.5 to Douglass&#8217; 26.93.<\/p>\n<p>Douglass was out under American record pace at the 100 with a 51.88, turning on to breaststroke ahead of\u00a0<strong>Ella Eastin&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>52.04 record pace, as she also was a full second ahead of Eastin&#8217;s pace at the 50, before falling off at the 150, indicating she may be saving a full rest for NCAAs, or she just over-swam the first 100. Either way, it is tough to see a scenario in which Douglass and Walsh don&#8217;t go 1-2 at NCAAs in four weeks in any order. Douglass was already a 1:50.9 earlier this season and is very close to the NCAA &amp; American record of 1:50.67.<\/p>\n<p>Both Douglass and Walsh are head and shoulders above the rest of the country right now, with Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alicia Wilson\u00a0<\/strong>sitting in third nationally at 1:53.5.<\/p>\n<p>NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Julia Poole\u00a0<\/strong>finished in third at 1:54.52 to break up Virginia&#8217;s 1-2-3 with\u00a0<strong>Ella Nelson\u00a0<\/strong>finishing in fourth at 1:55.32. Alons fought off Virginia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lexi Cuomo\u00a0<\/strong>out in lane eight, who used her underwaters to her advantage, flipping first at the 25, and coming in second from the outside with a 21.99.<\/p>\n<p>Alons&#8217; time was off her 21.70 from this morning which put her fourth nationally in that event with less than four weeks until NCAAs.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gabi Albiero<\/strong>, who was also right with the leaders at the 25, finished in third place at 22.08 just ahead of NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katharine Berkoff\u00a0<\/strong>(22.08) and North Carolina&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grace Countie\u00a0<\/strong>(22.08), who tied for fourth place.<\/p>\n<p>This sets up an interesting matchup between NC State and Virginia in the upcoming 200 free relay to close out finals as Alabama&#8217;s 1:27.02 from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sec-womens-championships-courtney-harnish-three-peats-as-500-free-champ-on-night-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SECs<\/a> tonight is the second fastest time in the country behind NC State&#8217;s 1:27.00 from mid-season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RToLkGwW0uU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<pre><b> Event 6  Women 50 Yard Freestyle<\/b>\r\n=========================================================================\r\n         Meet: @ 21.54  2\/15\/2018 Caitlin Cooper, Virginia-VA\r\n          ACC: !
