says Cate Campbell Photo Courtesy: SIPA USA<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Sjostrom is one of Sweden\u2019s greatest ever swimmers \u2013 winning three medals in 2016 \u2013 adding silver in the 200m freestyle and bronze in the 100m freestyle which saw Campbell miss the medals &#8211; and she remains the girl to beat for Campbell, her sister <strong>Bronte Campbell<\/strong> and <strong>Emma McKeon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But it was Sjostrom and <strong>Jeanette Ottesen<\/strong>\u00a0(Denmark) who comforted Campbell, who was sixth in a final shared by American Simone Manuel and Canada\u2019s Penny Oleksiak \u2013 a show of true sportsmanship and the amazing bond between the world&#8217;s best sprinters and it played out on the world\u2019s biggest sporting stage.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden\u2019s team doctor\u00a0<strong>Rene Tour<\/strong>\u00a0warned that a full recovery may take at least three months putting her Olympic 100 fly defence in doubt.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-to-undergo-surgery-on-monday-after-breaking-her-elbow\/\">The Swede sustained the injury to her right elbow when she slipped on ice<\/a>\u00a0on her way to Reimersholme, south of Stockholm, on Saturday and she was quickly transported to hospital where the fracture was diagnosed.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday she was operated on at\u00a0<strong>Sankt G\u00f6ran Hospital\u00a0<\/strong>during which screws and a metal plate were inserted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-warned-full-recovery-will-take-three-months-following-elbow-surgery\/\">Sarah Sjostrom: Recovery Will Take Three Months Following Elbow Surgery<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Campbell was quick to praise her respected rival saying at the Australian Dolphins Relay Blitz Meet at Bond University of the Gold Coast yesterday: \u201cI saw a pale faced Sarah with her arm in a cast and my heart just dropped for her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was devastating really\u2026.but you can never count Sarah out \u2018do that at your own peril\u2019 and if she needed any extra motivation to get back she will get there\u2026 she\u2019s as tough as they (come) and I wish her all the best.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank goodness they don\u2019t have ice (where we live) in Australia&#8230;..It isn\u2019t a final without Sarah Sjostrom in it but just heart-breaking for her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know she will do everything in her power to get back;
