However, President Biden noted that the decision to hold the Games needs to be \u201cbased on science\u201d as the world continues to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In the interview with <strong>Jim Gray<\/strong>, President Biden referenced the hard work and dedication the athletes put into their Olympic pursuits. He also stated that Japanese Prime Minister <strong>Yoshihide Suga<\/strong> was working hard to ensure the Games are held and conducted in a safe environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether or not it is safe for that to occur, my prayer is that it will be,\u201d President Biden said. \u201cImagine, imagine all those Olympians who work for four years, four years for one shot, and all of a sudden that opportunity gets lost. (The athletes) are the people that I feel such pain for, but we have to do it based on the science.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A member of the Tokyo Organizing Committee, <strong>Haruyuki Takahashi<\/strong> said that the fate of the Games could come down to President Biden supplying his support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s up to the U.S.,\u201d Takahashi said. \u201cI hate to say it, but Thomas Bach (the President of the International Olympic Committee) and the IOC are not the ones who are able to make the decision about the Games.
