The Oman Swimming Association also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofoman.com\/article\/national-swim-team-coach-filipovic-passes-away\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">released a statement mourning Filipovic\u2019s death<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Filipovic worked in his home country before he was hired in 2019 with a long-term mandate to improve Oman\u2019s swim program. Among the swimmers Filipovic has worked with are <strong>Abdulrahman Al Kulaibi, Ayman Al Qasimi<\/strong> and <strong>Nasser Al Kindi,<\/strong> with Al Kulaibi medaling at the Hamilton International Swimming Championships in late 2019. Oman won three medals at the GCC Swimming Championships <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omanobserver.om\/omani-swimmers-hog-limelight-at-gcc-meet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in Kuwait in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Oman had one swimmer, sprinter <strong>Issa Al-Adawi,<\/strong> participate at the 2019 World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Filipovic\u2019s duties, per the <em>Times of Oman<\/em>, including swimming development programs for young swimmers and improving coaching standards within the Oman Swimming Association. He oversaw virtual training sessions during the national lockdown in 2020 to keep athletes in shape and conducted a closed-door swim camp in Boushar last September to prepare athletes to return to competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Serbian swim coach Srdjan Filipovic, who was serving as the head coach of the Oman national swim team, died Feb. 5 at age 49.
